stereo system bald my tires??

I had 13k miles on my 04 coupe, and i noticed that the tire pressure sensor alarmed. got out of the car and noticed that the rear tires had uneven wear! so bad the the air was leaking out of one of the tires. worn from the middle to the inside of the car(both tires) i looked at the car and noticed the the rear was about 1" lower than the front... i took the car to the dealer and they ordered some springs, replaced and aligned... I got 3 JL amps; 2-12" w7(fiber glass enclosures) a cap, the x-overs for the front/rear speakers all in the trunk... i'm guessing about 120 lbs.. of extra weight.... i bought the goodyear f1 tires...put the orignal rear size in the front and went with the 275-45-18 in the rear.. i have a feeling that this is going to happen again... I'd like to hear from members with BOOM!, what they did..., upgrade springs??? what kind etc....any input would be very helpfull...thanks!!!

i really doubt that the extra weight would have caused it....unless you had defective springs/suspension. but, 13k miles appears to be the approx. life of most performance tires on our coupes.

a big sound system can definitely lower your rear. In all my past cars after I intalled systems the rear dropped about 1/2" to 1", instant drop, no srings required. Seeing how bad the camber can get on a lowered car it's no wonder why uneven tire wear on the inside is possible. I would get an alignement and see if you can get it back in spec.

of course the extra weight from speakers (or amps, subwoofers, etc) can lower the car slightly. i don't dispute that. but it's only, according to the poster, about 100 pounds. if a hundred pounds can lower the car enough to affect the camber and treadwear, then why doesn't the front driver side tire have uneven tire wear since there's ALWAYS a driver (extra 150-250 pounds) on that side?

it depends where that weight goes to some extent. throw it in the back behind the rear axle and the load is carried on the rear suspension, put it in front and it is distributed between the front and back. 100lbs is not too bad, my last system weighed in at around 175 and the rear end noticeably sagged because of this.

so what are some "fairly"/"good" aftermarket springs that will help the issue.

that's a tough one, most springs although hey have an increased spring rate will lower your car and with the additional weight of the system it will still be a bit lower then the front. You would need to get coilovers so you can crank up the back end to level it off. I don't know if they make them for our car, but I used machined alluminum spacers before to raise the back end up on my 4runner.

I have a pretty heavy setup in my car and have experienced nothing unusual in terms of tire wear. Plus my car is lowered on RSR springs. After 10K miles, the tires are looking good.

I'm in with the poster, roughly 100lbs+ in the trunk. I too am wondering about the effects that has on the car, with aftermarket springs, Etc. Another reason why I'm looking at the 350Z spring setup. Should get the car back to flat, even with the stereo system.
