Strut bar

been playing around the last couple of days.i think this is the 2nd one on the G.Chad (Protocav) has the 1st one.now i know why nobody made this for the G yet.there're just no place for mounting.i bought this one from ebay.made by Megan Racing for other cars.constructed from CNC machined 6061 billet aluminum, gunmetal finish.i then get rid of the mounting bracket and made the posts.i also cut/modified the bar, bolts and end pieces.still need a little more work yet.right now it rubs a bit between the hood and plenum.it looks kinda weak but it not,put two hand on the thing and try to rock back and forth, the car goes with it.between this strut bar and the Cusco sway bars i had,the car feels rock solid now.
next project = Engine torque dampener

Great looking bar Steve. Not much space to work with there.

interesting. how functional is it. doesn't look beefy enough for rigidity. otherwise, good job on the mod though

Saweet. BTW - Stillen makes an engine brace for around 130 bucks. Might check it out on their site.

Good job on being innovative but I don't think the effectiveness of that bar is very high. People point out that the bar isn't beefy enough, but I would point my concern to how high the posts are that connects the bar to the frame. My crude paint drawing is a bit extreme but it illustrates the point. The example on the left will do a much better job in preventing flex. Regardless though good work on the DIY.

Wow... thats crazy! It looks like its touching your plenum though. Wont it cause damage over time from engine vibrations?

allthough i like the actual machined brace, compared to the one i designed, i too feel that there is not enough bracing for it to be completely effective. there is quite a moment on the extension pieces, and there is no triangulation to add rigidity. perhaps add more bracing, or a gusset?

i know what you mean about the spacing, though, it was tough to get it in there with the space that is available.
