Re: staggered rims on a 4 door

This probaly been ask before, but I can't find it in any posts, so...

It has been "accepted" that staggered tires on the sedan cause VDC confusion. If this is the case will the VDC light flashes all the time as the rear and front tire spin at different speed? Anyone with this setup verified this? If the VDC light doesn't come on in staggered setup, can we conclude that VDC is not affected by staggered tire setup?

muuvova;

I like your attitude. But without paying some serious money, you are not going to put your G into M5 territory. I think at this point the twin turbo kits hold alot of promise. But you run the risk of drastically shortening engine life, eliminating your warrantee, etc. Better yet, be happy with the G as it is. The G is already fast enough so you can cruise at way-more-than-legal speeds in complete comfort. Around here, you can loose your license if you get caught at more than 30mph over the speed limit. Still, I think if you pick your spots, there are daily opportunities to exceed 100mph, without much risk of a ticket, or endangering anyone else. There should be no trouble doing this in your G. If you want to blow off everything on 4 wheels, and don't want to spend a huge amount of money, get a crotch rocket.

The 18's will look great, and the car, even with sport suspension, shouldn't be too stiff.

Re: staggered rims on a 4 door

I have a staggered wheel setup for my G Sedan. No problems at all so far. I made sure the overall diameter for the fronts and rears tires were exactly the same in choosing tires. If I remember correctly my speedometer error is something between 1-2% in comparison to the OEM 5-spoke 17inch wheel/tire setup. I went with Toyo Proxies T1-S....245/35/19 Front....255/35/19 Rear. I have been driving the car really hard and the VDC, SLIP, and ABS lights do not come on at all...even during a quick launch from a stop sign and accelarating through a nice turn.

During the 19 inch wheel/tire install the car was raised on the platform and I observed that there was a good amount of turning clearance for the front 245/35 wheels.

I'll keep you guys posted if I notice any problems with any warning lights coming on.

I really like the nice meaty tires for the rear wheels. Will post pics soon.

NIFG35, Did you notice any different when cornering with your staggered setup? more oversteer/understeer compare to stock? Thanks for taking the guess work out of this VDC issue, Now, I have no doubt in staggering my tire.

What size/type rims do you have? What offsets?

Re: staggered rims on a 4 door

Whoops...sorry for taking so long to reply...
1) The car feels more grippy on turns...so I took a few turns that I'm used to taking with my old stock setup and took the turns with my new setup...I could easily see on my speedometer that I could push the car faster on turns and still retain complete control of the car.
2) Oversteer/Understeer? Sorry I'm not technically versed in oversteer or understeer...but if this helps....my tail never felt like it was all over the place on a hard hanging turn and the car easily went into straighaways after completing a turn.
3) Rims: 19x8 Front and Rear......Tires: 245/35/19F and 255/35/19R.
4) Offset: I'm not sure...these wheels were custom built for me by Bozeforged.
5) The rims have the staggered look, but technically speaking only the tires are staggered.

Understeer/Oversteer

When you push the car past the amount of traction available to the tires in a turn, one of two things whill happen.

The front tires break away, and the car plows straight forward. The car is understeering -- turning less than where the wheels are aimed.

The rear tires break away, and the back end of the car comes around in a fishtail. The car is oversteering -- turning more than where the wheels are aimed.
