I brought my carto a dealership in edmonton AB Canada, to have springs put on and they dropped one of my brand new chrome wheels. The whole outside of the rim was scratched. Of course they are going to pay for it but thats not the point, it never should have happen in the first place and now its just a big hastle for me.

I am putting my stockers on when I take her into service. No way am I going to
risk getting my GT3's scratched up. no way.

just play it safe and put your stockers back on. the reason to keep stockers
is to use them as back up, during the winter months, during storage, and
during dealer visits.

After having my rims f1cked up on my Passat I have taken to using the digital camera, right there in front of them to take high res shots of my wheels before I hand the car over. I also do a walk around the car with the service counter dude to show that there are no dents or scratches. The reason I take the photos in front of them is two fold: 1) I won't hear "well how old are those pictures" and 2) they now think I am a freak. This is good because they handle my car appropriately. This is after all ascribing to the theory that the best defense is a good offense because I am looking to avoid dings rather than go through the hassle of them f1cking up, me whipping out the photos, and then waiting weeks while they arrange for the repairs they are about to pay for. You wouldn't let him drive it any other time but suddenly cos he works for a dealership it's OK. NOT! Take photos.

Actually I line my lug holes with the finest of harvested unborn mink pelts........
And still the dealership treats me like a freak.

Do not!

Whenever I take my car in for service, I take my rims off. My rims require the thin wall socket to remove them. Have you ever seen these guys with an impact wrench?! I dont even chance it. Even with a good dealership that will take care of their mistakes, is it worth your time to have them repair it? It only takes 30-45 minutes if you are VERY careful to switch rims.

Taking pictures is great for insurance purposes but it doesn't protect
your wheels or cover for the time and agony if they do damage it.
Even if the tech didn't damage it a 18year old porter with not much
driving experience could curb it...

swapping wheels takes no more than 15-20min if you have a
hydraulic jack. it's worth the effort.
