hey how'd it go with the avon tires?... im in the same situation (in CA and need new tires soon) and am trying to decide between the same times and the toyo t1r right now? any advice from anyone.

 

Just a quick note about the Avon 550's. I bought a set and they were great for about 800 miles. Then they went out of balance, started pulling right and I couldn't get anyone to correct it. So Tire Rack let me get full credit on them and I went with a set of Bridgestone Turanza LS-V's. No problems yet and about 350 miles so far. They compare I would say very closely to the Avons. No noticeable differences that I can mention, either pro or con. I like them, and would recommend them as an alternative. They were about 30.00 more per tire, but I went from a 215/55 17 to a 225/55 17 size. If they don't exhibit any issues, they were worth it for sure.

Did you have any flat spotting with your Avons? I have heard they do that when sitting for long. Did you leave your car undriven for any decent amount of time? If so, I am wondering if that had anything to do with it. It just seems strange to me that they were fine until 800 miles and then went out of balance. No chance you threw a weight? All the reviews are so good on the Avons and not as good on the Turanzas and I am seriosly considering the Avons as well. Did you pay for any additional warranty with Tire Rack to return your Avons?
