Question 20" Tire Help!

I'm running 255/285/20s with FI and I'm still having problems with traction. Anyone know if 295s will fit on a 10" rim and if I'll need to trim or roll? Is anyone running 295/20s or wider? Here's a pic of my current setup...

TIA

Is that a "real" problem or are you trying to show off?

I think you have a good set up. It may just be the tires. I've never owned Falken so I can't say much about them. But the tire sizes on your wheels are perfect. I would consider another type of tire if you feel you need more traction.

No, it really is a problem. I do like the Falkens but I have to back off the throttle so much in 1st gear I'd probably get my azz kicked by a Mustang GT. I think going 295s would make a difference for me but not sure if they'd rub or not. Anyone have them?

Brain,
You need to get an LSD ( limited slip differential ), designed to provide maximum traction that is most often lost in hard off-the-line acceleration. The unit will sense when one wheel starts losing traction due to track/road conditions, hard cornering, and/or torque steer. Once it detects the slippage, it will compensate by shuffling the power from side to side to overcome the loss of traction. This translates into better track or quarter mile times, and more efficient use of the power from your TT system.

If you go with a 295/30 tire. You will be 0.20" closer to the inside fender lip than you are now with your present set up. The ride height will change by 0.12" shorter, nothing to worry about and you will not notice it.

This is the best I can do with the info I got on your ride. Without the offsets, I can't give you precise info but this is very accurate.

Check and see if you got at least 1/4" or more clearance now.

You have the WORST tire if you're looking for brute traction! I'm rolling on the same Falken (simply because they were a good deal) but I can't wait to junk them!! Going back to P-Zero's!!

Also someone mentioned LSD, do you not have one? I highly recomend you look into one if you don't already have one...

New rubber and an LSD to boot, and you'll stil always have traction issues under certain conditions, but it'll be 50% better than what you're experiencing now....

EDIT: OH and you're still running a "pop charger" with your APS TT setup? Mind posting up a pic under your hood.... VERY curious to see that...

Thanks Larry, I've heard of this but not sure what brand or the cost involved. I think Nismo offers them but what have you heard is the best for the money?

Thanks for the help Chico. I will check out my clearance when I get a chance. So you think no problem with my VDC on this setup, 255/295s?

Actually I'm looking at Mich. PS2s because they offer 255/295s. No pop charger, I just forgot to remove it from my sig.

Hey,
Have'nt checked around for prices. Contact Paul at AvalonRacing, 603.425.2270 , they're a sponsor at My350zforum. He's very knowledgeable about this stuff.

Thanks, I'll check into it. Sorry for the dumb question and I should know this but doesn't the 6MTs have some sort of LSD?

Hey,
Actually they have the VDC ( vehicle dynamic controller ), you want to turn that feature OFF when racing. The VDC is electronic and the LSD is mechanical. LSD is VCD compatible (although you will want to turn VCD off to enjoy the full benefits).

It should be fine 'cause there isn't a significant difference in height between the two set ups. But I can't say I am 100% sure if the new width will have any impact on the VDC. My opinion is: it doesn't but you should double check.

No, I know to turn off the VDC for best runs, which makes it a even more wild ride. So no LSD on the stock 6MT whatsoever, right?
