i'm about to get an 05 g coupe in a couple weeks n i live in michigan and the winters are somewhat harsh, and i was worried about drivin the g in teh snow, so i was wonderin for those of you who have driven the G in the snow... how does it handle and is it drive-able in the snow/winter...or am i just better off gettin another car?

it handles well. get all season tires (by default mine came with summer tires).

 

don't even think about driving it in the snow unless you have a set of winter tires. I had way too many close calls last winter here in ny with the stock 18's and it absolutely sucked!!

TCS constantly kicking on and off, slip light going on and off like a freakin strobe light.

with a winter tire setup, you should be good.

 

worst.car.ever in the snow, buy good snow tires or a beater... you'll need it

 

got some friends with mustangs that are even worst... but yea dont do it unless you got the right shoes

 

michigan roads is not very well plowed vs IL roads... i would definitely consider a beater car for winter. i have a civic.

If you have snow tires, the G will handle better than a 4WD vehicle with all-season tires. I had Blizzak WS-50's last year and they worked great in Dayton. I actually looked forward to the snow.

 

On my coupe, for three winters and, I had the Pilot Alpin's. For two years I ran the 235's. They worked great. For the third winter I ran 245's. I "felt"/experienced less traction. I would buy some 17" enkie wheels and tires for the winter (Like I do for the sedan now). BTW, I still use the Alpin's and I normally drive 30,000 miles each year. I love this tire!

 

The post above is spot-on. I'm a fellow Michigander, and bought my G35 as a daily driver, winter or summer. You have absolutely no option but to buy a set of winter tires - buy them with a set of wheels at the same time to make the changes easier (and save your summer wheels from the salt). Get an inexpensive floor jack, they really don't cost that much and the summer/winter change turns into no problem.

The 17's are definitely the best way to go, but 18's are available (I have Blizzak's). You could put them on your stock rims and get something aftermarket for your summer tires???? It may seem like an expensive option, but remember, you are not wearing out your summer tires while you are driving on the winter setup, and you have the ultimate winter protection for your summer rims.

With winter tires, the G is driveable in the winter. It does not match up with any 4wheel drive vehicle that I've ever driven, and I would certainly not want to drive it in a foot of snow (goodbye front lip). But it's okay, and really...most of the time in the winter there's not that much snow on the roads (except for maybe my neighborhood!!).


BTW, resist the temptation to spin the winter tires, it's awfully easy to do....
