Question Feedback/Opinions on Tire Choices

Ok. I've been looking for new tires to replace the ones on the rims that I got from ScottR (thank you Scott ). I have gotten it down to two choices thus far. The rims are the OEM 7-spoke coupe 18's BUT they are all the same size (8"). Below is a link to tire rack's info on the tires I am considering. Please give me some feedback on what you all think of these tires ESPECIALLY if you have any actual experience with them.

BF Goodrich g-Force T/A KDWS

Kumho ECSTA ASX

As for size of the tires I am looking at 235/50/18.

The other options that I have with size are 245/55/18 with the BF Goodrich and 245/40/18 with the Kumho.

Any info is much appreciated as I really need to make a decision on these.

Cheryl,

The G35 Sedan's stock tire's overall diameter is 26.3". The tire you select should be within 0.3" to 0.5" of that value.

The 235/50/18 and 245/55/18 tires are almost an inch taller than stock at 27.2". A 245/40/18 tire is around 25.8" tall and should work fine... it shouldn't confuse your car's speed sensors, VDC and cruise control.

As for the brand, did you find this resource when evaluating your choices?

Hi. I was hoping you would see this thread.

I actually did not see that particular chart though I was looking at the survey results and read about 30-40 reviews of each of the tires I listed. Those Avon's are really my first choice but as you and I talked about the other day - they are just so heavy! The sizes I listed are the closest those tires come to the ideal size. If that is the biggest difference factor then we are definately talking the Kumho's. A little concerned about the ride quality with that low of a profile though, so.....

How much of a change are we talking with the other sizes? I know I have some difference now as my speedo is already off from changing rims/tires from the stock size. I wasn't aware that this would throw my VDC and cruise out of wack. Explain? please.

My next choice down the line was the g-force KDW2's but I was hoping to get a tire with a better treadwear rating and those are only a 300 vs. the KDWS's 400 and the Kumho's 420.

Now you see why I am looking for some more input! LOL! Too many choices - UGH!!

Cheryl,

I found most of the following size tires to be within the acceptable overall diameter. Not all manufacturers tires are the same height so double check the sizes of the ones you're interested in. The closer to 26.3" the better.

225/45/18 -> 25.7" - 26.0"
235/45/18 -> 26.3" - 26.5"
245/40/18 -> 25.6" - 25.8"
245/45/18 -> 26.7"
255/40/18 -> 25.9" - 26.2"

You seem to be favoring the Kumho. The 245/40/18 ECSTA ASX might be the one.

I'm sure other form members can provide more information. I don't have any personal experience with Kumo tires

OK. I ordered the Kumho tires from TireRack yesterday at about 1pm. One of their sales people called me yesterday afternoon to verify that I was aware that the tires were not the stock size for my car - which I did know - but I thought it was cool that they did check this. Well when I arrived home from work today at 2pm low and behold my tires were here already! I figured that tomorrow was my best chance for them to arrive. So far I am thrilled with TireRack - I'll update after I get them mounted.

Tires are on the car and so far they are great! I was a little disappointed with the gap that I now have but overall I can live with it. Now I haven't gotten much on these tires yet but these babies are super quiet compared to the RS-A's and the ride is quite nice considering the low profile. Thus far I would say that I would recommend these tires but they are still REALLY new so maybe I am jumping the gun.

Thanks to those of you who gave advice - I really appreciate the input.
