Tire Recommendations

It is time for new tires. I need some recommendations for performance tires. Winter driving isn't a concern since i live in FL, but do need a tire that will perform well in the rain. I would also like a tire that isn't to noisey without sacrificing to much on performance. I am trying to keep the price at 200 per tire or less.

Thanks

I really like my brand new Firehawk Wide Ovals, size 235/50/17. I moved up from the stock Turanza EL42 which were barely worn but I didn't care for them. The Firehawks are very reasonably priced, an ultra-high performance tire, quiet with great dry grip. Not sure about the wet yet, I'm in Southern California and we haven't had any rain yet and I just got them a couple weeks ago. They are probably not the best though since they are not an all season type tire but the tradeoff is worth it to me because we get relatively minimal rain in San Diego.

Yeah i have heard good things about the firehawks, but wet traction is very important in FL. It rains almost everyday during the summer. Any other suggestions.

Thanks Again.

While there's other info out there I found these two charts to be very helpful. The first link is for maximum performance summer tires. The second is for ultra high performance summer tires.

Not too long ago changed over to Kuhmo ECSTA's and I LOVE THEM!!! I opted for the all season but that was my personal choice. They are not very expensive compared to some of the others and they are proving to be an all around good tire. Now I don't have but about 1000 miles or so on them so as far as long term wear I am not able to comment. Do your research and TireRack is a great place to do that research. I read probably 200 or more reviews on different tires before I made my choice.

I love my Michelin Pilot Sport PS/2's. Great handling, nice ride. Refer to this chart for help. The PS/2's are not on the list because they were not on the market when the tests were done.

Thanks for the help. I was considering both the pilots and the Falkens maybe I will look in to those. The Falkens don't come in 215 55 i assume 225 50 work?

Thanks again.

Another Falken I'd recommend over the 512's are the FK-451's. These are supposed to be very good in wet conditions. I'd would go with those.

If you want to shell out money for a more popular name go for the Goodyear F1 GS-D3's. These are head-and-shoulders above most other tires in its class when it comes to wet traction.

I've had KDW's on another car and was extremely happy with their wet performance, considering the already good dry performance.

I believe the Falken Ziex ZE-512 comes in both 225/55-17 and 235/50-17 from Discount Tire. Does anybody know if the BF Goodrich KDW 2 in 225/45-17 will fit the stock 17 x 7 Sedan wheels? The are only $109 at tire rack and have a wicked tread pattern.
