I think it is too early for oem 19 tires to wear out for 05ers.... but 255 is the widest for a 8.5 rim

I am concidering replacing mine with 245/35/19 front AND 255/40/19 in the rear. Does anybody know if I will have problems with the VDC? The stock 245's are 26.7" and a 255 is 27".

Another question:
Will this change my speedo reading? I have heard the the speedo reads off of the front wheel somewhere on this forum.

The Miata Garage tire size calculator will give you the speedo differences as a percentage, but I'm not sure if the speedo is based on the front or rear wheels. Does anyone know for sure?

255/40 19 on a 10.5 rim works fine.

Speedometer is fine. Driveability is fine. No issues or VDC kicking in too early. Still can break the rears loose easy as hell...but for my setup it works fine.

I believe that the speed sensor is on the front wheel. Its a part of the assembly that holds the brake line as well. Still though...it would be good to keep all 4 tires within 1/2 an inch of stock.

265/35 19's technically would work..but there are only like 3 choices from Tire Rack...and they are all expensive.

For the stock rims though...I would stay with the 245's. The configuration was set that way as the "optimum" setup given the current setup. So, until you change rim widths and diameters.....I would just keep the same tire size.

Just my thoughts.
