2004 G35 coupe MT alignment problems with OEM 350Z springs

Hello,

I have Sep 2004 base G35 MT coupe. This is my daily ride and I don’t track my car but I wanted to have stiffer suspension. My primary goal was to eliminate bounce and secondary was to decrease body roll. So during past month I was undecided which springs to buy between 2004.5+ OEM 350Z, Tein H-tech 350Z, Tein Basics on max height and RSR Down for 350Z. I had limited budged (< $1500) and therefore because of potential cumber problems, I took safe route (thanks to Gsedan35) and bought 2005 OEM 350Z springs, 2005 OEM 350Z sway bars and Tokico D-spec for 350Z.

Month ago (with all stock except carputer), at 11.5 month and 11.5 K miles I went to local Infiniti dealer for weal alignment and again today after 90 miles on 350Z springs, new shocks and 350Z front sway bar

.......| O E M| ALIGN| DROP | ALIGN|
.......| 09/13| 09/14| 10/11| 10/12|
Camber
Front L| -1.0 | -0.9 | -1.8 | -1.7 |
Front R| -0.8 | -0.8 | -0.5 | -0.5 |
Rear L | -2.5 | -1.5 | -2.0 | -2.1 |
Rear R | -1.8 | -1.1 | -0.3 | -1.1 |

Toe
Front L| 0.06 | 0.05 | 0.15 | 0.07 |
Front R| 0.07 | 0.06 | 0.12 | 0.08 |
Rear L | 0.20 | 0.13 | 0.50 | 0.09 |
Rear R | 0.10 | 0.12 | 0.21 | 0.10 |

Caster
Front L| 7.9 .| 7.9 .| 7.9 .| 7.7 .|
Front R| 8.1 .| 8.1 .| 7.9 .| 7.7 .|

Now, this is 0.5” drop and service manager is telling me that this is best they could do and that they have calibrated Hunter machine.
Camber in front have 1.2 degrees difference and 1 degree difference in rear. What I don’t understand is how could rear left comber become worse after alignment then before alignment (from -2.0 to –2.1), and why is the left side (both front and rear) worse than right side.

kenchan tried to explain to me in PM (thank you) about how my car might be leaning on the left side of the car. But I still don’t understand: how come, with this drop, cumber on right side on both front and rear wheels has become more positive (unexpected) while on the left side it has become more negative (expected)? It looks to me, as if this car is so asymmetrical or like if left vs. right springs (bought on eBay) was not the same size, but they did look visually same to me (and they had pale purple dot on them – for revised springs). Can someone PLEASE explain this to me? Thanks

Please recommend me alignment shop in New Jersey (07901).

did you measure it? If not, measure the ride height and report back.

kenchan, here it is, from the center of the wheel to the top part of the fender arch:

Front L 36.7 cm R 37 cm
Rear L 39 cm R 38

Ground surface might have not been even. I will measure it again tomorrow and report if different. Thanks

New day – new numbers

I went today to local tire place (with Hunter DSP811) for alignment and they were very busy but they did readout for me without doing the alignment, which will be done tomorrow:

.......| O E M| ALIGN| DROP | ALIGN|VERIFY|
.......| 09/13| 09/14| 10/11| 10/12| 10/13|
Camber
Front L| -1.0 | -0.9 | -1.8 | -1.7 | -1.1 |
Front R| -0.8 | -0.8 | -0.5 | -0.5 | -1.2 |
Rear L | -2.5 | -1.5 | -2.0 | -2.1 | -1.5 |
Rear R | -1.8 | -1.1 | -0.3 | -1.1 | -2.2 |

Toe
Front L| 0.06 | 0.05 | 0.15 | 0.07 | -0.05|
Front R| 0.07 | 0.06 | 0.12 | 0.08 | -0.01|
Rear L | 0.20 | 0.13 | 0.50 | 0.09 | -0.33|
Rear R | 0.10 | 0.12 |-0.21 | 0.10 | +0.47|

Caster
Front L| 7.9 .| 7.9 .| 7.9 .| 7.7 .| 8.0 .|
Front R| 8.1 .| 8.1 .| 7.9 .| 7.7 .| 8.0 .|

Height measured from the ground to the top part of the fender arch:

Front L 26.50” R 26.75”
Rear. L 27.75” R 27.75”

I trust their numbers because rear right wheel does look more tilted inward then the rear left wheel. Only difference with the car today is full tank of gas. I guess that Infiniti service manager must see these numbers. Such a dilettante?

your car's ride height looks pretty good left/right. it's the tech's fault he screwed up
your alignment...the 'VERIFY' really proved that. sheeesh..

You might want to ask the alignment place tomorrow to let you sit in the car while
the techs adjusts. that way you'll get a truer setting.

New day – new numbers

So I went again today to the local Infiniti dealer and asked them to do a readout and if numbers would match their numbers from last time (10/12) to try align it again but if numbers do not match that I will do alignment some place else. Now they will give me a shop credit for last alignment.

Then I went to the same local tire place from yesterday for alignment and the new numbers are below. They did not let me seat in the car while performing alignment.

I am done with alignments for now.

.......| O E M| ALIGN| DROP | ALIGN|VERIFY|DEALER|VER.B4| AFTER|
