From Avon to Bridgestone

Just an update for those who are looking at the Avon Tech M550 tires for their car. I know they are well rated, but this is what I experienced.

I had a set of the Avons put on and they were great for about 800 miles or so. Then the started to vibrate at 65 plus mph. Had one replaced and they still shook. 3 balances at different shops and no luck. So I had them replaced with Bridgestone Turanza LS-V's, and now no shaking. I would say they compare to the Avons pretty closely. I went from the 215/55-17 Avon to the 225/55-17 Bridgestone, and I like the way they look more than the Avons. I hope these keep rolling without developing the shakes, like the Avons did. The Avons semed to flat spot also, first thing in the morning.

I dealt with Tire Rack for the whole process, and they have been excellent at helping me with this scenario. I recommend them highly.

Just my two cents.

Thanks for the headsup on the Avons, I was actually about to get these from tirerack because of the great reviews from other G35 owners. Did they explain why the car shook, was it the soft tread pattern on the avons?

I almost got Avon too but decided to go all out and get better tire.

The TOYO T1R tire. It's hard to find the review report about these tire since it's fair new product.. Well, I guess I will judge the tires and rate it.
I found two rear tires in local, but could not get the front(the big store's warehouse was backorder, told me to wait 6months-.- So, I ordered online and got them..(they had one 3 lefts and I got 2!! well, they are still in process of shipping) It will be installed in my car on Monday(oct 24th).
let see how it goes.

From reading the reviews on tirerack, the avons seem to have some quality control issues. On the roadforce balancer, people have seen 1-2lbs of roadforce on one tire and 20-30 lbs on another. I just bought the avons for my wife's Mini Cooper S, but haven't had a chance to install the new wheels/tires. I had them roadforce balanced and on the printout, the worst tire was 8 lbs and the others were all 2-3 lbs, which seems fine to me. I'll have to see how they feel, but anything is going to feel better than the runflats on that car!!

When they removed the Avons from my car, before they put the Bridgestones on, they did another roadforce, just so I had an idea of what they were at. 3 of them were at 13, and one was at 15. Not the best numbers, as most of you may know. The Bridgestones were all in the single digits I was told. I also think they took too long to warm up in the morning, and I live in Florida! Can't imagine how they would have been in the cold.......

So far the Bridgestone Turanza LS-V's are living up to the great rating they seem to be receiving. I'll try to post a 1K mile follow up.
