Just got a new set of tires/wheels put on...

F: SSR GT1 18x8/Bridgestone PP S03 225/45/18Y
R: SSR GT1 18x9/Bridgestone PP S03 255/40/18Y

The rear set are only 1.5mm taller than the front set, so I should not have any problems with the VDC, right? Looking at the rear tires/wheels from behind the car, they look massive!

I have to go take a ride now!

I took a little shake-down spin this evening, and I find the new set-up has massive grip. I did not have a slip, slide, or even a squeak. They do seem a little more bouncy over bumps, and the car tram-lined a little bit on a seam in the roadway. There was no noticeable road-noise. I'm happy I made the change.

Great choice in the wheels and tires. Those Pole Positions SO3's have awesome grip. I'm most likely going to get those tires and Rota Attacks when my stock tires run out.

Those ar ethe very same wheels I am gettng. Can you please tll me what the offsets are for the fronts and rears and how them line up to your fender (is you car lowered or stock?).

Also, do those tires have flat or convex side walls?

Thanks for the compliment. I have learned much from your posts, and now I'm glad to have a chance to help you...

Offset? I'm embarrassed to tell you I do not know! I ordered the tires mounted/balanced on the wheels from The Tirerack. They list these as recommended options to the stock size on their website. I'm sure they would tell you the exact offset measurement for both front and rear wheels.

Lowered? Yes. My car is lowered 1.1" front & rear w/ Eibach Pro-Kit Springs. I've had them on for almost 6 months, and I don't notice much sag. But there's negative camber at each corner, at about 1.5 degrees, that cannot be adjusted out. (I'm OK with that. So far, the cornering is enhanced without excessive tire wear.)

The tires/wheels fit perfectly within the wheel wells, both front and rear. The offset is just right: The tires/wheels do not rub, nor do they protrude from the fender. The relationship of the tire and wheel to the fender looks great at each corner. The car sets lower than stock, so the "big meats" in back are difficult to appreciate unless you are directly behind the car. And a lot of folks have had the chance to greatly appreciate my new rear tires lately, if you know what I mean...!

The front tires have a straight sidewall, as one would prefer on the front. The rear tires have a slightly convex sidewall. Also a very desirable condition. I'm very happy with the set-up.

Final analysis: The Tirerack really did their homework. The new set-up looks and handles great. I have had no problems with the VDC. I am extremely lucky to have this set-up on my car. I would recommend the same set-up to anyone.

I am the wrong person to ask about handling. Clint (THX723) is the master of this domain, he should weigh in here... I will ask hiom to do next time I talk to him (if he does not happen to stumble onto the thread on his own). It is mostly trial and error from what I know..

255's are on the small side for a 9" rim. You most likely have the 45 offset. From my many/long conversations with tirerack, that's what thel told me. They also told me, that they are playing "safe" with tire widths. 275' in the back are totally doable on 9" wheels, that's what I will be getting.

My question, is the rear tire concave because it is a little small for the wheel. In other words, do you see the sidewall receding toward the center of the wheel cross section as you move away from the wheel lip outward? Do you knwo what I mean? If so, flat side walls can be had with slightly wider wheels.

BTW,

I am going with 8" wide (+35,or 38) in the front, and 9" wide (+45) in the rear (exactly like yours). However, my tires are gonna be, 275/35 and 245/40 (front and rear).

The 255 sidewall profile on my 9" wheel is not straight |, nor is it concave (. The sidewall profile is definitely convex ). This is only my opinion, but the 255 tire *appears* to be correctly sized for the 9" wheel. It does not *appear* to be undersized.

A 275 will probably fit a 9" wheel, but the convex profile, of course, will be much more pronounced. The tire will protrude almost a 1/2" more beyond the rim on each side. I don't know if a 275 will rub, but one thing's for sure, you won't have to worry about scratching your rims if you ding a curb!

You might want to see what both tires look like on a 9" wheel before you buy... Good luck.
