How exactly does the TPS work?
I know that the sensors are on the insde of the wheel, but is it attached to the car's computer system by a wire? I am confused about how it works. I am removing my OEM 19s next week to put in my snow wheels/tires. Do I have to remove any wiring or anything before I do so?
The sensors are wireless. I remember reading in the service manual that they communicate through the keyless remote entry receiver. There are scads of threads on the forum right now discussing ad nauseum what to expect if you mount winter wheels with no sensors. Short answer - the worst you should see is a little warning light at the left side of the instrument panel.

What's happening? Uh... we have sort of a problem here. Yeah. You apparently didn't put one of the new cover sheets on your TPS reports.
Mmmm... yeah. You see, we're putting the coversheets on all TPS reports now before they go out. Did you see the memo about this?
Yeah. If you could just go ahead and make sure you do that from now on, that will be great. And uh, I'll go ahead and make sure you get another copy of that memo mmm'k?

"Not right now Lumbergh, I'm kinda busy. You know what, in fact I'm gonna have to ask you to just go ahead and come back later, I've got a meeting with the Bobs in a couple minutes... ...Yeah, they called me at home."

I put my snows on about 2 or 3 weeks ago and just this weekend, the TPS light came on. Normally, my commute is less than 30 minutes, so I never saw it come on. This past weekend, I went for a 3 hour tour (uh-oh, ain't that what happened to Gilligan and the rest???) and after about 45 minutes, the light came on. Shut car down, restart, light off. 45 minutes later, it's back on. Doesn't bother me at all as it's tucked way off to the left of the instrument cluster.
It is wireless and does communicate with the keyless entry receiver module which I believe is in the passenger side kick panel. I'm sure there's some sort of battery in each wheel sensor, so I can only imagine that we will need to replace that quite regularly (I'm hoping it lasts 2 years, but I have no idea, just basing it on what a normal watch battery lasts).
I really wish that Infiniti would have had the foresight to program the system so that if it didn't detect any of the sensors and the ambient temp were under say 5 degrees celsius, it just assumed that the car was in winter mode and that all tires were off the car, replaced with winters.
Blasted legal nannies that forced this on us.

Hmm, you've got too much money then, LOL!!!
So, I guess you have the reverse problem where the light is on during the summer?? Or did you buy another set of sensors?
Hey! Maybe I should design a transmitter that would sit in the glovebox or trunk and send the "happy" signal to the receiver so that if you don't have the sensors on, the car doesn't know any better.
I check my own tires frequently (weekly, with quality air pressure guage; every time I get in the car by eye) so I don't really care for the monitoring system.
Oh well, as soon as I get world peace figured out, I'll work on the transmitter
