Scratching Wheels while removing lugs

I've removed 2 different wheels at different times and both times I've done so I've always scratched the wheel where the lugs go. It's not really that big of a deal, but I am still annoyed by the fact that I've scratched them both times. I'd probably be even more pissed had they been aftermarket wheels. So I'm just wondering, what kind of tips you guys have to prevent your wrench from scratching the inside of those lug holes?

I have a set of deep sockets that have a special thin rubber coating on them to keep from scratching the sides.

You can order them from most tool places.

JM2C...
Get a set of spline drive lug nuts.
They're narrower than OEM style & give you more clearance.
They will come with a deep spline drive socket

my mechanic friend works for a local nisson dealership. He just got me one last week & I figured if anyone else needed one I could get more. There's a "traveling salesman" that stops in once a week to sell tools to the mechanics. He's from cornwell tools. Kinda like snap-on, just a smaller company.

masking tape does not work. you would need more tape than there is clearance for it. i have tried that and it only digs into the tape and cuts into it. i have tried masking, duct and electricle back when i had my mustangt with enkie evo revolutions which had the same problem but worse. and nothing worked. however that red socket with the plastic outer shell will do. RX anyone find out where to get pl=lease post. RX

Get a reversed lug nut which is basically a tuner lug, or get a thin walled socket... Was one of the best investments we made.

i guess if it works for these 2 guys, then i may have jumped the gun. i assumed my Enkie evo Revolutions, were the same as far as "short clearance" i must appologize. i still think the tools with plastic coating are better. RX
