C&D tire comparison GS-D3's winner

check this out. too bad the S03's weren't included in the comparison.
Only the 050's from Bridgestone.

11 tires comparo:

I personally run the GS-D3's on my Cooper-S and they are very good
tires. it's one of the best ive used next to the S03's.

Quite a few tires they left out...the S-03 like you mentioned, the BFG KDW2, Dunlop SP9000, etc...

yeh, well, we won't have to worry about the SP9000's anyway though.

ive used them before, they don't grip that well anyway.

For me it's worth looking at the charts for the performance attributes in difference kinds of conditions (wet, dry, cornering, etc.) and going from there. I've always heard good things about the Goodyears, but I was a little surprised with the low rankings (in every category) of the new Toyo.

Toyos look nice and weight very little so it has its benefits over other
tires. not everyone needs full out cornering grip of wat not for street.

Actual info is in the mag- the online blip says nothing of the charts. Tires were doubly dings for cost of ownership- initial MSRP skewed the results, then the treadwear rating was also included. Actual best tire- Yoko Advan Neova, then the PS2, then the Goodyear, then the RE050. What's not seen is how the tire will perform 6 months after purchase (Goodyear's have a rep of very quickly turning into pucks). As for the heavy bias on price, if I can afford the car, and I want it to perform, saving bucks to buy less performance is contrary to the purpose of the tires that were tested. This was not a "how long will my all seasons last on my civic or sunfire" test.

I didn't look at the online article. I read the magazine, so I looked at the performance aspects that were important to me. There are a few categories that aren't in there--noise, ride. Some of the tires (Hankook and yoko) are fabulous in the dry, but not so good in the wet and...I'm guessing that you might have some compromises with ride quality.

I had the GS-D3's on my wrx...I HATED them!

The sidewalls were just too soft, I would go blasting into a corner and you could feel the tire rolling a little bit once you entered the corner....I had a LSD up front and dccd so I knew I could get through the corner but it didn't give me much confidence...

you have to run S03's on a wrx. that's wat i ran on that car.
I usually run S03's on my weekend cars.

the purpose of me trying out the GS-D3's were to soften up the super
nimble handling of the Cooper-S to gain staightline stability.

choose your tires well for your application.
