Stern Tire & Wheel Package

Okay here is the deal I am considering!

I am not into the 19" & 20" wheels wrapped with big wide rubber bands around them like most folks. I like the 18" size for a little more cushion for those unforgiving potholes that can come from nowhere and ruin your day. I had the salesman at Need for Speed quote me the following wheel and tire package.

Need for Speed website:

http://www.need4speedmotors.com

Wheel Description:

Stern ST-2 Touring Sport (Chrome)
18x8.5, +20mm Front
18x9.5, +25mm Back

Tire Type and Size: NT 555 Extreme Performance.
235-40-18
265-35-18

Total includes: taxes, mounting, balance, wheel locks, lugs, insurance, shipping to my door $1,789. The quote is $100 less if I do not want chrome ($1,689). They said for a little more $ I still have room for wider tires; however, I feel this combination will give me the look I want.

I would like to ask you folks which wheel color would you recommend for the "G". I have the brilliant silver like the coupe in the below picture with the 20”. The salesman recommends the chrome for the “G” and Silver or Hyper Black for a 350Z due to the “G” being more of a luxury sport car.

either hyper black, or black with the shiny labia's. however, imho i'd get none of them for a G. chrome is a definite no no, unless it's a forged wheel.

Stern ST-2 Wheels

I looked up those wheels on needforspeed web site and would like to see them on your car when you get them installed. Any chance of you doing so?
Thanks,
Bankfixer

Wheel and tire package.......

I don't know if you have a coupe or sedan since you
didn't indicate which. The only change I would make
is 275x40's out back. That's what I run and they look
great, fills out the wheel! Good Luck

ST1 and ST7s look so much better imo. But hey... whatever floats your boat...

Golden Apple's Hyper Black is such a nice color, but for the ST2, I would get black with polished rim or chrome.

depending on the aspect ratio, 18"s can have the rubber band side wall height as well. A 19" wheel with the right side wall height (not too low profile) can look very nice as well. For 18"s, I will keep mine stock, 20"s too tall and 19"s just right--just me. For looks not perf.

Gave thought to that as well, however, the increase in weight and cost for moving up one size (Tire & Wheel) does not produce that much appearance difference IMO. On aftermarket wheels it is difficult to determine 18 from 19 from a distance. We are talking about only 1/2" taller in circumference.

An engineer with TRD race development quoted this remark.

He is a mechanical engineer by trade and works in research and development for the Toyota Atlantic race cars.

This is what he said.... "On most streetable cars, even most race cars, 18" rims & tires set up is the most efficient. Meaning when you combine the effects of weight, mass, inertia, etc., etc. you'll be able to achieve best results with the 18" setup than any bigger. He mention that when you get any bigger, i.e. heavier in weight and mass, you start to verge on degrading performance. Hence, a big reason why you see smaller wheels in F1 and other race cars. They use larger tires, i.e. higher side walls, because this type of setup is always lighter, is more tunable as sidewall stiffness and a variety of other variables can be controlled easier."

I don't know. I saw the Sterns when I was at the tire shop with a friend getting new tires. The sterns are pretty heavy. They were something like 28 pounds. I'm guessing forged rims are out of the question, so maybe you can get a different rim that looks the same, and hopefully weighs less or costs less.

But if you like them, than whatever floats your boat. I'd go with Hyperblacks tho.
