Question! Is Your TPS Light On With Aftermarket Wheels?

I think my Tire Pressure Sensor is mulfunctioning. My dealer states I don't have any sensors in my tires. My TPS light is never on, but did go on twice on the highway during long trips. I do have OEM 18s, but the person I bought them from installed winter tires on them.
Can the people with the aftermarket wheels on (without sensors) tell me if their TPS light in the dash is on?

the tps light does turn on in my car with snow tires and they do not have sensors, just like how you describe it, it turns on once in a blue on long highway trips.

since I've had winter tires.. maybe about 2-3 months it has gone off less than 10 times, whenever you shut off the car and turn it back on it does dissapear.

I think tirerack wanted $100 per sensor so I said f_ck that I'll live without them for a few months.

Atleast it goes away after I reset the car and doesn't come back on too often. I just ignore it.

I'm running 17s 350z wheels for winter setup without sensors. I drove around the city for 3 hours on Vday and no problems with TPS. So far it has never gave me any problems.

we have aftermarket zenetti wheels on a few cars and installed the factory TPS sensors in them so you can still utilize the feature. definitely a plus but you have to find out which wheels will be compatible.

Mine only comes on after 45 miles of continuous highway driving.

Oh ok, this seems like same thing I'm experiencing. Thanks everyone for contributing. I guess it's the way the system is designed, I was expecting the light to be on at all times if it detects there is no sensor, but it looks like the light is usually off when all 4 sensors are gone. Thanks again guys.

I'm currently rolling on my winter wheel/tire setup I got from tirerack. The TPMS sensors are still on my OEM wheels and the TPMS light is on at all times when my car is running since the sensors are not installed in my current setup. I've accepted this as normal behavior since the car cannot communicate with the TPMS sensors on my OEM wheels (stacked in the corner of my garage.). Am I understanding this correctly or is there something wrong with my TPMS? Seems like other owners are having contrary experiences.

Interesting...I wouldn't worry about it though.....wait until spring when you put your OEM's back on and I'm guessing you'll be fine.

Evidently the system has changed over the years. On my '06, the light blinks when I first start the car, and then stays on until I shut the car off. Does this everytime.
