spacers

i dont want to purchase the expensive spacers for now,i think i read somewere that you could go 25mm with those,i just dont see myself spending $200+ on spacers at this moment,my question is about the regular spacers, the ones you could get for around $20 a pair, how thick of a spacer could i get without having any problems with the lugnuts?? is 8mm fine? maybe more, maybe less?? let me know, thanx a bunch .... and yes i did a search, didnt find what i was looking for, later
