Exclamation Forced to get rear tires

I'm not bothering with a search, b/c I have my own story. I hit some debris on I-285 the other day and it killed me driver rear. I'm new to "high end" cars like ours and have always used "Fix-a-Flats".

Well, it got me to the dealer, but when I told them I had used the product, they freaked out, saying that I just ruined my tire sensors. ($600 a piece).
Well good for me (I guess), I do not have the sensors.

Anyways, long story short, they said that my tires are so low (in tread) in the back, that they were not going to plug it and force me to get new tires.
I didn't want to make a decision that quickly, so I talked to the GM and had them go ahead and plug the tire so I can get it home and park it for a few weeks, to "Shop" for some tires.

I've found the best price for MICHELIN PILOT SPORTS (18") on TIRERACK.COM, but they are $$$$$$!!!!!!!

Front: 225/45WR18
Serv. Desc: 91W
$214 x (2)

Rear: 245/45WR18
Serv. Desc: 96W
$259 x (2)

Shipped to my door would be around a GRAND!!!!!!!! Wow, more than I EVER thought I would spend on rubber.

Is there ANY tires that compare, that might be cheaper, but just as good? Or is there a place that sells the Pilot Sport for cheaper?

Please HELP!!

Thanks,
-WoW

This is just the beginning of expensive replacement parts. Look up Toyo T1R's. Just as good, slightly cheaper and will last longer.

don't things like this make you wish you could stick some 15"s on this biatch?

yeah, me neither. You coughed up the 30-40k for this car, so now you have to cough up the incidentals. My rears are starting to lose grip much earlier than before, and I only have something like 15k miles on them. And my fronts are roaring so badly that I can't really have anything loose in the car, or it'll start shaking and rattling along with the rest of the car. Whatever, I guess I'll just keep them on until a very small pool of water causes my car to wipe out due to hydroplaning. I consider it "practice for my future career in Spec D racing".

blah. I want a lotus elise. oh. wait... maybe a golf TDi.

Well, with most things, including tires, you get what you pay for. With that said, I, like you, am on a tire "budget". Check out Cooper Zeon 2xs, Toyo, General Tire, and Falken. All decent tires, z rated (I think) and much cheaper. americastire.com or tirerack.com Sorry to hear about it, I got a 4 inch bolt through the tread and sidewall just the other day.

I agree, I put these on my 6MT to see how they compared. Much cheaper, and handle about the same. I have been using Toyo's for some time, on my other cars as well, and they never dissapoint.

Keep in mind you don't have to replace the front if the tread is still good. All the tires for our car are $$$$, but you should be able to find a brand alittle less than the pilots.

Another vote for Toyo. I have the 17 inch rims and needed replacements that were affordable. The Toyos are great and only cost me $600 for a set of four mounted, balanced and filled with nitrogen. They are so quiet too.

Another vote for the toyo T1r,

My previous Car had toyo all season Proxes 4, they were also pretty good, less expensive (not as good as the t1r).

Dunlop make tires for our size and they are cheaper than the toyo. I dont like the dunlop "dirreza" but they are cheap.

Also, there are good deal to be found in the "marketplace" tire section, contact one of the sponsors, I bought from Erin of "ke7tires" and I am really happy.

Yes, tires are expensive for this car, but very important.

I also replaced my OEM Michelin Pilot Sports rear tires at 15K miles.
I replaced the Fronts at 20K.

I replaced them with the same (Pilot Sports).
My first order was from tirerack.com (~$240 shipped),
my front set was from discounttiredirect.com (They had a FREE SHIPPING deal).

I've always been loyal to Michelin tires - I've had them on every car I've ever owned. I've tried others, and decided Michelins were the best for me.

Bite the bullet, cough up the money and buy a good set of tires. Don't skimp on tires or brakes, is my motto.
