your avon tech m550 a/s review?

anyone went thru winter with these tires? how did they hold up? im curious also about noise, a lot of reviews say they are quiet, but most tires are when new. so anyone had them for 10K or more, were they still quieter than stockers? how is the thread life?

thanks.

I just finished up a set of Avon M550s on my '03 G35 coupe 6mt. They lasted about 18,000 miles which was a little longer the stock Michelin Pilots. My winter driving was limited, but the Avons made a BIG difference. I could actually back the car out of the driveway in a couple inches of snow with the Avons....not so fun when I had the Pilots. The car was actually driveable in the winter with the Avons.

They did become noisey as the mileage accumulated, especially above 14,000 miles. Most of the noise is due to the fact that I can't rotate the tires on my coupe. Any tire you buy will become noisey if they're not rotated.

Overall, I was very pleased with Avons, and will probably purchase a set of M500s for my next set, since I don't drive the G very much in the winter. If you're driving in the winter, the M550s are a great tire.
