Lets talk about Matte (Flat) Black paint jobs on cars please.

Ok the reason im in love with this color is because I really dig black on cars. The only reason i didnt get a black G35 is because my Saturn Sky Redline was black and it was beyond a pain in the *** to keep clean. So lately I have been thinking about Matte black, but i have no idea what its like to wash a car this color or how to maintain it. Does anyone know about it? Im thinking i might paint my G35 this color or maybe my next car but i need to know more about it first. What kind of cars does it look good on? Does your car need to be super agressive or an exotic to pull it off right? How much does the paint job cost? Will most paint shops do it? Please add to the topic..

Post your knowledge, experiences, opinions and even pics about the color. Thanks!

Example of the color on a Mercedez G Wagon:

matte black is even hard to maintain, you can't polish the finish and it shows scuffs easily

Flat black has always been so gangster especially with matching rims, good luck with that man, there's a guy over on My350 who just painted his Z a Satin Black, which is pretty much the same thing, you should go check out his thread. I'm looking to pull off a first for the G's though, trying to get in line to do a Lambo Matte White that the new 560 gallardo has. Everyone's been doing matte black for the last few years and it's a nice color I wanted to switch it up a little, get fresh for once. Hopefully I can get this paint job before this summer, next summer for sure, waiting times for high end body shops are a bitch. Check out the color here.. tell me what you think

flat black g would look sick man.....my buddy has a harley vrod motorcycle and it's flat black and he loves it day in and day out. everyone else loves his rare paint job color as welll.....even though certain packages come with them in flat black but still you dont see many out there. he said nicks and scratches tend to show up alittle more than regular paint jobs but it's not to bad. he said it's worth having. i say go for it.

Thought about it. It's too much work and it's very last year.

There are a variety of companies making flat paint. BASF's Karisma RM or flattener clear from Alsa or U-tech's mixed flatten base coat. Ultimately it will depend on the company the painter and the prep to determine the finish. Most you've seen on car shows must cost a fortune to look so smooth and perfect.

Not to mention, a stock vehicle with flat black will just look primered. Most if not all show cars in this finish has extravagant body work done. The finish itself just offsets the balance.

ppg makes a flat clear will be no different than most paint jobs, you can wax it for protection, but can not wet sand and buff.

Notice they are both cars upwards of 100+ K

Unless you are going widebody and baller status, the paint will make your car look cheap.

5axis IS-F has a Matte Black that looks beautiful

Matte Black only works on some cars. I've seen a CLS in Matte Black that looks hot too.

I don't know, how it would look on a G or Z.

the IS-F has pearl flakes in their matte blue. It's pretty crazy paint job.
