03 G35, gold dust on wheel?
Hey guys, new here. My 03 g35 has gold dust all over the rear pass side wheel. I don't see anywhere where the caliper could be rubbing (I have gold brembos) and I'm on stock wheels. I also hear a grinding ish noise when braking but assumed I just needed new pads ans rotors. The gold dust is new though. Any ideas?

Yeah I plan to replace them, but I dont understand why that would cause gold dust on just this wheel. The other wheels are fine. But I do believe there to be an issue with the caliper as well; it "grinds" whenever the wheel is spinning now. Going to have it checked out tomorrow.

One of the caliper slide pins has seized, causing the caliper to lock in place. As a result, only the inner pad is able to press against the rotor. What has happened is the inner pad has worn down to the backing plate and now the plate is contacing the rotor. The gold dust is rust/pad/rotor material that is being scraped off and flung around the wheel.
Put a finger on the backside of the rotor and feel the surface. Is it smooth, or is it starting to get rough?
Depending on how badly the brake caliper slide pin is seized, you might not be able to free it. Replacement calipers are cheap on rockauto.com
I'd recommend pulling the rim off, and inspecting the brake by unbolting the caliper and checking pad condition as well as inspecting both sides of the rotor.
Basically...been there, done that. I would be your pedal is a little soft as well. If you double pump while braking, does pedal response improve as well?

Having messed around trying ot free a badly seized pin, the inner bore gets so corroded that the problem just comes back pretty quick.

I let my pads go down to the metal on my old Mercedes and there was fine metal "dust" all over the rims that oxidized and looked very similar to your picture.
Check the meat on the pads. The face of the rotors don't look too bad but the edge of it looks ****. Plus I think I can see some metal shavings on the top of the caliper.
