Grinding noise turning off engine

Grinding noise turning off engine
I thought this would not happen to me but I'm finally making a post about problems with my G. I tried to baby it and everything but it still came to this. It's the transmission. Recently when I turn it off, I hear a sort of grinding before the engine completely shuts off.
I'm going to bring it to the dealer, but I'd like to get a heads up on what the problem could be first. I still don't trust the dealerships.
Thanks guys.

Re: Grinding noise turning off engine
i've posted about this b4 with no replies...the noise i have is more of a rattling noise, which is most likely attributed to the throwout bearing noise that a couple of people have been hearing when their car is idling in neutral w/o the clutch depressed. when u shut the car off, i figure that the bearing is winding down, hence the rattle (kinda like a grind, but more like a big rattle)...do u have that noise at idle? the noise seems to come and go as it pleases, and so is the noise at idle, so i figure they are one and the same. i've brought this issue up with infiniti, and they said they cannot re-create the problem. so i guess maybe i'll keep bringing it to them until i hit the lucky (or should i say unlucky) time that it will rattle for me. good luck.

Re: Grinding noise turning off engine
I've got videos of the knocking at shutdown as well as the cement mixer at idle (trying to find a place to upload them now). I'm going to press the issues at my next oil change. I'm on my second clutch and transmission now. I've yet to have a consistent smooth shift to second gear (mini-grinds) in this car in 6500 miles. The G35 6MT (in my car at least) blows big, huge, massive chunks.

Oh got the vids uploaded:
Mixer is me pressing in and letting out the clutch.
Clatter is me cutting off the car in neutral clutch out. This is actually a quiet shut down relative to normal (more rattles usually). If I shut the car down w/the clutch in I get no clatter.

Re: Grinding noise turning off engine
That's funny because I also own a TSX and it doesn't make any of these noises. Neither did my (all manuals): Escort Hatchback, Cavalier Z24, BMW M3, supercharged Miata pushing 2X stock power through the stock driveline, Corvette, S2000, Celica GTS, or BMW M5.
I believe this is a prevalent sound, but that doesn't make me think that it is "normal" or that I should be hearing it in my car (it doesn't help that my 6MT shift quality has been less than stellar as far as me thinking everything is a-ok).
As for the Corvette sound that people here mention as being the same sound and it's ok, it's not. The C5 (the one w/the owners video that explains things like the vette rattle) has a transmission that is separated from the engine (the xmision is over the rear wheels for better weight distribution). It has a shaft turning at engine speed running under the car to the transmission. That setup does make some quirky sounds, but the G35 is so far from that set up I just don't see any parallels. And by the way, I never really notice the rattle in my vette vert...
