AWD vs RWD lower control arm bushing replacement

Hi Guys,

I have a 2008 G35x and need to replace the bushing for my lower control arm. The dealer only sells the whole control arm assembly and its $350 CAD per side. Doing some research on this site and elsewhere and found that Whiteline makes replacement lower control arm bushings for the G W52991 and W52992, however I could not confirm that it would fit the AWD model. I called whiteline and they could not confirm, they said that all testing was done using the RWD model. I know that the part number for the control arm are different between the AWD and RWD, but hoping that the bushing would be the same size.

Did anyone do the bushing replacement of the AWD model? Do you know if it would fit?

thanks for your input in my post!

sounds like we have the same issue, except my car is 2WD.

what are the symptoms you're experiencing? i get a bad creaking sound going slow over bumpy roads. Also, the sound goes away in the winter.

are you going to replace both bushings in the front lower control arm?

I need to replace them since I have some play in the bushing but no creaking sound just yet. I had the creaking sound and had to replace the links. I would replace both bushing, just trying to figure out if they will fit.

I found the same thing as you. AWD and RWD front lower control arms are a different part number and I couldn't find a separate part number for the bushing.

They don't sell the bushing separately so there is no part number. I took mine to the dealer and as per them the control arm is per spec.

OP I was able to get energy suspension lca bushings into my 2005 g35x lca by using the collar from the oem bushings. The bolts are larger but bushing OD was the same. Tight fit. But it fit.

2008 vs 2005 that I do not know.

EX35 AWD
Hi everyone,
Finally, are the lower-left control arms the same between AWD and RWD? I know the part numbers are different but are they exchangeable?
I have an 08 EX35 AWD that needs a new lower control arm (probably bad bushings? I haven't gone under the car to check, it was the mechanic that mentioned it) and I don't want to pay the insane prices from the dealships.
Thanks

I'm pretty sure the EX35 was built on the G37 chassis, you might have better luck asking over at MYG37.COM but my gut feeling is that yes they will be different.

You should look at aftermarket replacements and just have a local reputable alignment shop do the work or recommend a shop to do the work. The labor charge will be similar (about $125/hr for all mechanics) but the parts cost will probably be significantly less.

Well double check it to make sure, I know the engine is the same VQ35HR that comes in the 2007-2008 G35 but I don't know about the rest of the chassis.

It's all built off of what Nissan calls the "V36 chassis" and the parts interchange is pretty much 100% for everything that's V36 chassis. The G35 sedan from 2007-2008 used that V36 chassis but those were the only two years. The bulk of the G35 was built on the previous V35 chassis which shared a lot of interchangeable components but was still very different.

The G37 however ALL used the V36 chassis, same with the Q50 Q60 and both the X variations for those platforms. There's just a lot more experience and resources on the sites dedicated to those cars, thus why I recommended that other site.

Something else you can do is get an itemized cost breakdown from the dealership to find out EXACTLY WHERE THE MONEY IS GOING. I would expect that part at the dealership to cost about $300 per side, plus 4 hours of labor at $125 and an additional $125 for alignment (definitely needs to be realigned).

So total price would be about $1000 or so if you were only replacing one side. However unless the damage was caused by curb checking/potholing that corner then it's likely that BOTH sides are pretty evenly worn out.

You can then haggle the price with the dealership, get them to toss in a free oil change/transmission flush/differential flushes that need to be done to sweeten the deal a bit. It won't cost you LESS but you would then be getting MORE for the same dollar.

ALWAYS treat the dealership service counter like it's a pawn shop / barter fair, always always haggle the price just like you would with any other dealership salesman! The service counter is literally just another salesman on the floor, if they say no or you don't like the price then walk away just like if you were buying a car, they want your business and will almost always haggle with you since most dealership have an insane markup on their parts and labor. They're not selling cars right now because they don't have inventory to push out the door, they're hungry for business right now so leverage that to your advantage.

Yeah, makes total sense to change both, but the car now is with my ex-wife, and I'm just trying to help her figure out the cheapest way to keep it running, so, I'm sure she won't do both sides and she won't go to the dealership.
But yeah, I would prefer to just change the bushings on both sides, because most likely, the actual part made out of medal is still in good shape, although the car has over 250k KMs now.

Ok if you want THE CHEAPEST then you should just go around to a few local repair shops and get a quote in-person, ask them about just replacing the rubber bushing with a polyurethane or something along those lines just to keep the cost down.

Also, if the pieces isn't actually making noise when driving over bumps, and it's not affecting your vehicle alignment enough that you can see visibly different wear on that tire then you can PROBABLY just ignore the maintenance for now. It might just be a very mild wear that the mechanic pointed out that isn't actually affecting the vehicle YET.

Nothing cheaper than that option if it's not going to eat a tire.
