Seat comfort. Houston upholstery?
I have had my G for only two weeks, and my right leg can't take it. I've read ALL of the 32 page post below and have come to the conclusion that Infiniti wont' do anythign about it.
I have called my dealer and the ICA, with no result.
SO. Does anyone know of a good auto upholstery shop in the Houston Area. I am going to have them rebuild the bottom of the seat and I guess I'll just move the controls elsewhere.
Thanks Infiniti for the great customer service.

That sounds terrible-- sorry to hear it. The dealer will at least work the TSB, won't they? Have you tried that simple solution before going for the big shebang?

Re: Seat comfort. Houston upholstery?
I talked to the service dept. at my dealership when I went to have the spoiler installed. I also showed them the TSB that refers to the 2003 cars, with my being an 04 he said that my car wasn't covered under it. Also, that this was fixed in my car since that TSB was released.
Well it still hurts. And I am about to get my doctor to write something up as well.
It's easy when I dont' drive my car, my leg doesn't hurt, when I do drive it does hurt.
I just started looking, so maybe in that time Infiniti may come up with something. I doubt it though.
thanks

Mine used to hurt also, but after pushing on the side of the seat several times and making adjustments to the seat position, i've cured my problem with the controls pushing into my leg.

Re: Seat comfort. Houston upholstery?
Well after work I pulled my seat and bent back the three metal posts. HUGE improvement, I felt it right away. The side is just as flat as the left side.
So hopefully this will take away some of the pain until I can get the seat done.
thanks

The bolts are under some plastic housings at all four corners.
A 14mm socket wrench will take them off.
The controls are rubbing now against the middle console, but I padded it.

Re: Seat comfort. Houston upholstery?
Well I was wrong...it didn't help at all.
The pain is still there and and is still uncomforatable.
Still looking for good upholstery shops around here.
Guess I need to hit the yellowpages next.
thanks

I have the same problem in Houston.
I spoke to a few airplane interior places near hobby airport - they would do it on a time & material basis.
I also spoke to a boating interior place on Richmond near the a few miles before you get to 610 on the south side of richmond...he quoted me 150 to pull the seat, pad it up, lower the control as low as it could go and not look stupid.
I havent done either yet - I bought a butt pad and just suffter right now.

Re: Seat comfort. Houston upholstery?
Have you thought about an aftermarket seat from Sparco or Cogra. I have been looking at the Cobra seat. Much beetr feeling seat and you feel very connected to the car. The install is way easy and most good seat companies have brackets that are made specifically for the G35. Don't buy any of the crap from EE-bay. A good Cobra, Bride, Sparco seat will cost around $700 to $900 each, but well worth the money.

Re: Seat comfort. Houston upholstery?
I thought about aftermarket seats, but for that price I could possibly get coupe seats.
I got a quote for the seat rebuild of 250 with materials. Doesn't sound too bad.
So I am waiting a week to see what Infiniti/dealer will do for me.
thanks

Re: Seat comfort. Houston upholstery?
Well I have an appointment next friday to have the controls removed completely and the right bolster rebuilt, from a mold of the left one.
The price will be 300 bux, but he will add more foam to the top of the seat, do the bolster, mount the controls and make sure that it is the same as the left.
I know it sounds like alot, but I can't sell the car, nor can I endure the pain. This will be the best 300 bux i have ever spent.
So I will post some pre and post pictures to let you all know how it goes.

Re: Seat comfort. Houston upholstery?
Silver04....by all means, please post good pics and report of your fix incl. where they move the seat controls....my main reason not doing this up 'til now is worries about the right bolster rubbing up against the console if the seat controls are moved....Please let us all know how this turns out. Thanks for posting on this subject.

Re: Seat comfort. Houston upholstery?
Thanks I sure will. I wanted to let everyone know and see what can be done.
I would like to keep the controls on the right hand side, but I think any good seat has to have full bolsters on both sides. The leather that is left over from the old bolster will be used to cover the controls when they get moved to the front.
I had some issues before with having one seat with out controls and the passenger side with. But considering I am keeping this car for a LONG time, I really don't care. Plus it won't matter much in resale value later on anyways.
I will definitely keep you all posted.
thanks
