DIY single turbo build write up DYNO page 11

I'm building a custom turbo kit for a friend and trying to keep the cost at $2000 using new parts, not including the tuning. So far these are the parts we have and what has been done. I will keep updating when there is more progress.

Installed the oil pan spacer from JWT $107.95 delivered to my door.
Ordered the the regular spacer, drilled and tapped it for the oil return.
Perfect instructions with all the hardware and template to cut the oil baffle.
Very easy to install.

Sorry for the the crappy pic, but here it is installed.

All buttoned up. Buying the turbo this week so just plugged up the oil drain for now to keep the car driveable.

Front mount $110 shipped, wastegate $72.83 shipped, 2 1/2" SS piping with flex coupler & V band $247 shipped (there's more piping still boxed)
Walbro 255 pump $73 shipped.

So far $618.78 spent on parts including synthetic oil change.

Dont sweat the negative remarks.....yea, there is alot of R&D done by all the brand name F.I. kits but lots of the fastest cars I know actually have "Frankenstein" kits....you mix a little of this with a little of that, install it yourself(if you know what you are doing), and you got yourself a real contender. If you got the right parts and the right tune it DOES NOT MATTER that its not a complete kit from one particular company. Tune it, boost it and boast about it. HAVE FUN!!!!!!!! Keep us updated...I may just have to followo your footsteps if it all works

good luck, there is a lot of money and time put into R and D.

if you can do it better thats great....

you have some piping that is still not fit and welded. looking at easy 1000 for all the fitment and welding. i dont see a turbo on the list, looking at 1000 for any turbo worthy of installing on the kit. are you going to run a wastegate?? thats at least another 300 dollars. what about a blow off valve?? it kinda looks like you are missing the intake piping too?? maybe a little bit of work cut out for ya. need some injectors, a $100 map sensor with your new engine management, at least 700 for that alone. still a lot of work but we wish you the best of luck. you have spent 620 now and have about 3000-4000 at least left....

^^^ I kinda of agree. To put a $2000 turbo kit on a 25k+ Infiniti is optimistic to say the least. If you can do it and it works well then power to you. I'm interested to see how this comes out and what the total bill is. Good luck.

Wow, where did you get a wastegate for $72? That may come back to bite you in a bad way if it fails and you overboost something crazy.

+1 - and where did you get your fuel pump? The best I could find was $93. Are you getting wholesale pricing from somewhere?

keep it up. I bet you'll end up spending alot more than $2000, but the experience will be great!

Are you pretty much going to copy the turbonetics ST design, or do you have a different location planned?

That's why you copy someone else's design when you want to keep costs down. lol

OP, are you fabbing the turbo manifolds or are you purchasing them?

Yes, you get what you paid for!!

Not all wastegate perform equally and that goes with every part (Injector, FMIC, BOV, EMS, Boost Controller, and even the kind of Turbo you get). hhhmm, I'll take a BB Turbo any day than a non BB. I'll also take Greddy Profec B/HKS EVC VI Boost Controller over a Manual any day. I will take a Bar/Plate design FMIC over a Tube/Fine design, and I can go on and on with different parts.
