High Performance Drivering Event @ Buttonwillow - May, 6
Hey yall ... it's time once again.
Join myself and the rest of the G35/350Z junkies in an HPDE (High Performance Driving Event) experience this May 6th. If you've got a 'lead foot' issue then this is definitely for you. You'll have more room and more opportunities to floor her and she what she's got ... all in a legal, safe and controlled environment.
If you're a newby to high performance driving (aka track newbie), please do not be intimidated. Everyone was a newb at one time (even me ). Virtually all of them will also tell you that they wonder why they haven't discovered this any sooner. Driving instructors (for a small fee) will be available for those of you interested and is required as a first-timer.
Spectators are welcome too for FREE!!!
If you still have doubts, come on out anyways and decide for yourself if this is what you'd like to do next time. At least catch a ride w. someone. I'll be the unofficial track tour guy once again. Look me up for a few flying laps ... just promise not to toss any cookies while in the vehicle.
Once again, we'll be going through the fine folks at Speed Ventures for this event. I liken their laid back style. Depending on the number for participants ... I should be able to get us FREE timing transponder rental once again. There WILL be plenty of track time ... more than you know what to do with.
This year ... we're also thinking of possibly setting up a group BBQ for lunch!!!
For those of you not as interested in driving ... maybe we could recruit yall as our grill master!
What da yall think?
Event date: May 6
Cost: $160 (all day ... till they kick us out)
Note: This is on a Friday, so do plan ahead! I don't know about you, but I'm feeling a case of pneumonia in about 3 weeks time.
Still haven't a clue what this is all about?!?!?!
Go check out some VIDEOS by yours truely.
scroll all the way to the bottom of the page and click on any of the 'yellow' square buttons for videoz.
Got boost? got ballz? ... Just do it!

I recently participated in this event. It's definitely worth it to go for the 2 day experience, rather that the 1 day. The first day is for soaking up all the new info being transplanted into your mind. Then the fun day, the second day is the day you can beat the s*** out of your fellow class members, in their inferior rides.
One piece of advice, get plenty of sleep on the night before the classes.
Enjoy, and get ready to be re-taught new driving techniques.
Just don't roll your s*** over Magic Mountain.

I am so "IN" for this one. Come on folks, this is a blast, it is really well priced, convenient to LA and a fantastic, interesting track to drive. About 23 turns in each three mile loop, and most of the track is favored with wide open run off areas. There are a couple of places that you don't get frisky with, but it is an SCCA designed and owned layout, built to teach as well as compete. This place has it all, with the exception perhaps of radical elevation changes. Those that do exist were manufactured with a dozer...but they are not bad. Just not Laguna Seca or Sears Point or Thunderhill is all.
Check the map of the track out carefully. Going from Bus Stop at the top you wail along the Riverside turn and shoot down towards Lost Hill. You reel it in a bit, set up and shoot over the hill. Going from Lost Hill to the Star Mazda turn you are going to be going flat out again almost to the shorter turn out for the sweeper before you brake into the diminishing radius Star Mazda turn.
But then......holy moly it is flat out again all the way up through the esses until the approach to the Sunset turn, then left for the front straight and wot again. You are talking four really serious high speed blasts with radically different cornering challenges. WOT acceleration through a wide sweeper, with a kink and then a hill, then WOT accleration into a sharp diminishing radius turn, then WOT through esses and a kink to a 90 turn, then WOT down a front straight to a slightly increasing radius turn. Turn ten laps in around 20-23 minutes...that is 230 turns and you have been on a roller coaster that you are directing for one heck of a long long ride. And you get to go out and do that four or five times???!!!!! If you are a newbie, the first time or two will be with an instructor at your side, and you may want to then drive two solo routes....then if you are wiped out, and you probably are, after four runs....rest the car and **** a ride with one of the instructors in their car, because the last run of the day those guys want to get in a really hot run themselves before the day is over. Then you will get to see what REAL SPEED is all about, and watch them putting into practice all the tips and pointers they were talking to you about earlier through the day.
It's good stuff.

I have an extra, brand new Bell M3-Pro helmet, that has only been worn twice. Once by my girlfriend for one session around Laguna Seca (she will never get in the car on a track again). And one day for two runs by my 12 year old son (he was queasy after that as well, but neither tossed their lunch in the helmet). Otherwise, I have had the darn thing for 16 months and it just sits in a bag. I don't want to sell it, but if you cannot score a helmet, I will bring it and you can use it. It is a size 7 and 1/8. I would like you to use a balaclava (head sock) so you don't sweat up the foam liner, but otherwise you are welcome to use it and you don't have to pop the money for a helmet to be eligible to drive.
Otherwise all you need to do is to wear long pants, long sleeved shirt (cotton please, no synthetics) and closed toe shoes and socks.
