escutcheon keyhole cover install

I finally got my escutcheon cover and tried to put it on yesterday. I got the old one off but the lock was still attatched. I tried to search for instructions, but the best I could find was "it's an easy 2 minute install". Can anyone point me in the right direction or just tell me how to disconnect the lock? I am just paranoid that I'll F it up without having some idea as to how to go about the install.

thanks!

J

Open the door and theres a hole covered by a rubber piece.
Remove that and you'll be able to disconnect the lock.

Look ma, no keyhole!

damn that's a hot G...

I got that plug out, unscrewed the screw, actually got the lock out of the door, but it was still attatched to some wires inside the door- The actual lock seems connected to the silver housing as well. It looks like I would have to undo the wires connected to the lock in order to fully remove it and the silver housing- is that right?
Thanks for the reply...

You don't need to take out the entire lock. Well most people don't(I didn't) as it's more involved. Just pop the stock keyhole cover off and pop the new one on.

What happens if your remote battery decides to die on you while you're like in the middle of nowhere?

Or you have a dead battery in the car.

Set of wires in the wheelwell attached to the battery.

As for the remote, just take an extra one with me on long trips?

Looks a bit like my car

You don't need to remove the lock the cover should pop off of the lock after loosening the screw in the door. It is still very hard to get the cover off you will need to use some force.
I have two remote FOBs on my key just in case

so you just loosen the screw instead of backing it all the way out? I'll try that, I took the whole thing out...

thanks,
J

no back the screw all the way out but you dont need to rip the lock out from the car.

the lock just comes out with the cover, all in one piece, but still attached to the internal wiring- I just tried and still can't pop it off- it's getting frustrating. My dealer is giving me the runaround, so I guess I will just have to wait until I can figure it out...

You don't need to disconnect anything. The cover will come off the lock.
