Q - What size wheels does my stock sedan have?
17" 5 spoke (03-04 Sport)
Front & Rear: 17"x7" (+45mm) (5x4.5 or 5x114.3) bolt pattern

17" 6 spoke (Sedan std)

17" 7 spoke (Sedan X)

Q- What size wheels will fit on my sedan?
The most common upgrade is to 19" or 20" wheels.
You can run the same size all around or staggered where the rears are wider.
(*Caution - the sizes listed below are estimates and may still rub depending on camber and height of your car)
(*Caution - it is not good for the AWD system in the X model sedan to run staggered wheels unless you remove the AWD fuse)

For the same size, an 8.5" +35-40mm rim will fit all around.
For staggered the rear size can be up to a 9.5" +45mm before modification is required. You can run a 10 or 10.5" but it will need to be higher offset to clear the inner fender.

Many people shave or roll their rear fenders in order to fit a lower offset or wider wheel. With the rear fenders rolled you can fit a 10" +40mm wheel with a 275 tire and -.5 degrees of camber or more.

You can go with lower offsets and/or wider wheels if you add in more negative camber and run smaller tires but do this knowing you will wear out the tires faster. There have been members go with much lower offsets and very stretched tires/negative camber so don't take this as an absolute but more of the "normal" setup.

Q - Will coupe 19's fit an 03-06 sedan?
Yes, however, if you lower your car you will need to either run smaller than OEM tires or roll/shave your fenders to avoid rubbing in the rear due the coupe 19's lower offset.


Q - What size tires?
The most common size tires for 19" wheels are 245/35(or 40)/19 (8.5-9" rim) and 275/30(or 35)/19 (9.5-10" rim)
The most common size tires for 20" wheels are 245/35/20 for (8.5-9" rim) and 275/30/20 (9.5-10" rim)

Q- How does the system work?
A: Each wheel has a sensor that is part of the valve stem in the wheel. The sensor transmits the tire's pressure. To conserve battery power, a centrifugal switch turns the sensor on when the car starts moving faster than 20 mph. There is an antenna in the "A" pillar that picks up the signal from each sensor. The computer in the car displays a low pressure warning when the tire pressure drops below a pre-set value. The normal pressure for the OEM tires/wheels is ~35 psi. The warning goes off when the pressure drops about 25% below normal, which is about 26-27 psi.

Q- I'm buying some new wheels. What do I need to do to keep the Tire Pressure Monitoring System working properly?
A: You need to get the sensors moved from your old wheels to your new wheels.

Q- Can I buy a second set of sensors for my other wheels and get both to work on my car?
Q- One of my sensors died. I got a replacment installed by it's still not displaying a pressure.
A: Each sensor has a unique ID number. It transmits that ID along with the pressure reading. The car's computer uses that ID to tell which wheel's pressure it's reading. The computer only recognizes the four IDs associated with the car. If you get new sensors, a dealer must "re-program" the car to recognize the ID from that new sensor.

Q- Will the sensors fit this wheel?
A: It depends. They fit on forged or cast one-piece wheels in which the valve stem is aligned in a similar fashion (angled) as the OEM wheels.

They sometimes don't fit multipiece wheels or wheels where the stem is perpendicular to the wheel barrel.

Q- I bought aftermarket wheels and didn't move the TPMS sensors to the new wheels. What's up with the warning light (!).
A: After about 30 minutes of continual driving, if the system doesn't detect a signal from the four sensors, the warning will beep and the dash light (!) will illuminate. You CAN'T disable the warning or the light. Neither Nissan or any shop can disable it (it illegal if they do it).

Q: I'm getting new tires on my G, do I need to do anything to the TPMS sensors? Do they need recalibration?
A: No, there's nothing that needs to be done. The sensors are mounted to the wheels, not the tires.

 

Q - What options are there for the G sedan?
Anything currently on the market that fits the coupe or 350Z will also fit the RWD sedan. BUT, if it is not sedan specific be aware that anything from the 350Z will lower the sedan 1" more and coupe parts will lower the sedan 0.5" more than they list. The stock Z springs will lower the sedan ~1" and the stock coupe springs will lower the sedan ~0.5".

Aftermarket springs for the other cars will fit the AWD sedan, coilovers will not Note the springs will lower it 0.5" more than the RWD sedan.

Q: What is the best suspension system available?
Depends on what you are looking for (Performance vs Aesthetics). It is recommended that you go to the Tech Area, then Sub-Forum : Brakes, Suspension, Wheels & Tires to review other members recommendations on various manufacturers.

Q: Will a lowered suspension system affect riding comfort?
Usually, the answer is yes. With a lowered suspension, regardless of purpose, you will feel more road feedback, the camber of your wheels will be affected, and you will have to adjust your driving style when approaching drive-ways, curbs, speed bumps, etc. Essentially everything will change, though the severity and what will affect you will vary based on your system and your driving style. Some drivers will actually prefer the road feedback as they can “feel” the quality of the road and can make split-second decisions as a result (Track purposes, touring, etc.).

Q - If I lower my car will I have uneven tire wear?
There are many aspects to alignment; camber, caster and toe. The G comes with some negative camber from the factory to help the car corner better. This will cause the tires to wear out on the inside faster than the outside but, at stock height its mild and normal tire rotation will help a lot. When you lower the car all three aspects are changed. The G does have some adjustment from the factory. Depending on how much you lower it you may want to look into aftermarket kits made to adjust your car back into the factory specifications. Regardless you will want to have your alignment checked and fixed as much as possible after lowering it. Many companies like Specialty Products Company (SPC), Kinetix, Stillen and others make kits for the front and rear. The front kits replace your upper A-arm as where the rears are camber arms and bolts for toe. The rear kits are quite a bit less money which prompts many people to just do the rears and deal with the wear in the fronts. Many members have staggered wheel sizes and the rear tires are more expensive also making the rears a good investment. You never “NEED” camber kits as long as you are willing to deal with the faster tire wear and are willing to pay to swap your tires around more often.

Q: What is the cheapest suspension system out there?
Looking for the cheapest usually means you’re sacrificing quality for price. However, there are deals to be found, group-buys, vendor specials, and even eBay (buyer beware).

Make sure you know a little information about the product you are buying ahead of time and for the most part…stick with major names because they are more than likely to back-up their product if something goes wrong.

If you still want to lower your car but cost is a factor, one low cost solution is to replace your springs (This only applies to models that came with the sport-suspension package) with “unrevised” 350z springs since they have the same spring rate. Your drop will be on average, 1” around, with only a slight camber to the wheels. Your ride comfort will be the same as sport stock or only slightly affected. More details on how to obtain springs, install, etc, can be found in the Tech Area. (Note – you can still install the 350Z springs with your non-sport struts but it will cause premature wear on them and your performance will suffer)

Q - Why does the front end of my car make creeking noises at low speeds going over driveways/speed bumps etc?
Check (or have a dealer/shop check) the compression rods which are known to go bad and can be replaced under warranty from dealer.

Q - How do I tell if I have sport suspension or not?
03-05 sedans will have red struts.

Sway Bars
The sway bars made for the coupe and 350Z will also fit the RWD sedan.
*except for the 350 evo sway bars, they do not fit the sedan*

Strut Tower Bars
The strut tower bars for the 350Z will NOT fit the sedan.

Most front strut tower bars for the coupe will also fit the sedan. I don't believe the VRT one will but the other should depending on your plenum spacer. Some will require you to remove your engine cover.

Bracing Bars (ie GT Spec)
The GT Spec front, rear and lateral bar will fit with the stock sedan exhaust. The rear lateral bar may not work with some aftermarket exhausts. The mid-4-pt brace will not work on the sedan at all.

Q - What is the REVUP, and do I have it?
The REVUP engine is included in 05/06 6MT (manual) sedans. The REVUP engine redlines at 7000 rpms, versus the standard redline of 6600. The REVUP includes variable timing on the exhaust cams in addition to the intake cams, as well as different timing/fuel maps in the ECU.

Q - Is premium gasoline required?
The owner's manual states that for the standard engine premium fuel is recommended, but not required. For the REVUP engine, premium fuel is required.

Q - My gas mileage sucks. Is it just my car?
The VQ35 in the G is not the most fuel efficient of engines. Fuel economy greatly depends on driver's style, but it's not atypical to achieve <=18mpg in city driving. The AWD models are even less fuel efficient.

Q: What is the REV light, and why does it stay on?
The REV light is a shift indicator included in the gauge cluster of the REVUP models(was the REV light included on non-revup models after 04?). The REV portion of the indicator will always be visible. The light will start blinking ~500 rpms shy of the target, and will remain solid at or beyond the target. The target can be changed by pressing and holding the odometer reset stalk.

Q - What intake should I get?
First off, know that some cars respond better to aftermarket air intakes than others. The G has a pretty good intake from the factory so you won't see more than a few HP from any of the aftermarket ones.

Stillen, JWT, K&N drop in, etc. All will give you about the same performance within 2-5hp. The best bang for the buck is a K&N drop in filter or JWT pop-charger along with oem or Stillen Z-tube.
The Injen cold air intake has show to give a little more power but does run the risk of sucking water into your motor because the filter sits down in the wheel well in front of the tire. See the intake tech section for more info (click for link).

Q - What's a Z-tube
A Z tube is the OEM intake tube off a 350Z. The G35's has more baffles to reduce sound and does not flow as well.


Q - Can I Supercharge/Turbo my car?
Why yes you can!
Most of the same kits for the Z or coupe have been proven to fit the sedan as long as it is the right year and motor (REVUP or standard). See the Forced Induction tech section for more info (click for link).


Q - What other options are there for more power?
There are a lot of choices for the VQ. The best thing to do is decide from the start if you are going to boost your car or keep it naturally aspirated (N/A). This will help you to not waste money on mods that you may have to take off later.

There are headwork options like cams, larger valves, etc. There are exhausts and headers (see exhaust FAQ below), Nitrous, and many more. See the engine tech section for lots of great info on this subject (click for link).

 

Q - Can I put the coupe exhaust on my sedan?
No!

OK, well yes you can but it will take a lot of work. There is a fuel evap system in the way. The spare tire well is in the way and the muffler is the wrong size. Anything is possible but it's going to cost you a lot.


Q - What aftermarket exhaust fits my car?
Full Cat Back = Borla, Stillen, Fujitsubo, Megan Racing
Rear Section only = HKS

**For 05+ Sedans mounting the HKS exhaust, you need the following parts from your dealer.
1. Bracket
2. Two screws to mount bracket to the car
3. Two rubber mounts to attach the bracket to the exhaust

Another popular mod is to replace your oem mid-pipe with one from the coupe. It has not shown much for HP/TQ gains but does weigh less and give a better exhaust note. It’s a great pair with the HKS rear section.

From what I have found, any headers which fit the Z and G coupe will also fit the sedan.

Q - My 03-04 sedan's brakes wear out very fast, is this normal, do I have warranty?
Yes, 03-04 sedans have a 3 year/36k full brake warranty. The dealer will replace pads and rotors up to 3yr or 36k, whichever comes first.

Q - What brake upgrades are available for the sedan?
The sedan's brake options are the same as the non-brembo coupe (or 350Z)
*Note the 05 AWD still has the same brakes as the 04 RWD.

There are many companies who make brake upgrades for the G/Z platform.
(I'm just making up stage numbers to help keep track of things below )
You can go with a Stage 1 type setup and replace the rotors and pads with oem size parts keeping the calipers stock. It is also a good idea to upgrade the lines to braded lines with any brake upgrade.

You can go with a Stage 1.5 upgrade from RacingBrake which is larger rotors (13") and keep the oem calipers. (You can upgrade to 4-piston calipers in the front down the line without changing rotors) **this front upgrade is only for 03/04, the rear will work on all sedans

Stage 2 and above will replace your lines, calipers, rotors and pads. You have options from 13" 4-piston up to 15" 12-piston .

Q - My car makes a strange sound when I first start driving in the morning at low speed. Anyone know what it could be?

It could be the ABS system self test. It's normal. If you get it any other time than when you first start driving you might want to have it looked at.

Q - Will coupe body parts fit on my sedan?
Not directly, all parts require a full conversion. Everything except for the fenders will bolt right on but need all parts to work.

Q - Can I debadge the emblems on the rear of my 1st gen sedan?
Yes - except for the mount fuji emblem which has rivets (holes). picture here
The other "INFINITI" and "G35" lettering is attached by double sided tape and can be easily removed. The most common way is to heat them with a heat gun and remove with dental floss. Then use goo gone or similar to remove the extra tape. Finish with a good wash, polish and wax.

Q - Can I get rid of the orange marker lights on my bumper?
Yes, the JDM V35 Skyline has clear ones and you can get them from any dealer but some of our sponsors keep them in stock. Grubbs Infiniti, EverythingG35.com and Tony or Jason at Riverside Infiniti.
*Stay away from the ebay ones. They are not much cheaper and not as high quality.

Q - Are there aftermarket headlights for my sedan?
Maybe...
The only options out there for plug-and-play headlights are ebay and clear corners. The ebay ones are low quality 3rd party lights which are black inside. They are only for the non-HID 03/04 sedans. Clear corners makes a LED-halo retrofit and can paint them to your color choice. They are very high quality (with a price to match).

The best option for a decent price is to open up your lights and modify them yourself. Some members have done single and bi-xenon projector retrofits, painted the bezels and installed CCFL halos.

Q - Can I swap my taillights from the 03/04 grid style to the 05/06 circle style?

Q - Is there a carbon fiber hood for my sedan?
First let me ask why do you want one? The oem sedan hood is aluminum and very light. A CF hood will not help much there and they never fit as well as the oem. Plus it is always a good idea to have hood pins on your CF hood because many are not made for full-time use and the resin on the latch area dries up and gives out.

Stillen makes a full CF hood for the 03/04 sedan to fit their top-mounted supercharger. From time to time you will see one listed on ebay but most of the time they say it will fit 03-06 sedan. Be cautious with these since the 03/04 sedans hood is not the same as the 05/06!

Q - Can I paint my dark gray side sills on my 03/04 sedan?
The best option is to replace them with the Nismo (Aero) sides. But, they can be painted. Some paint shops will say no and others say yes. With the proper prep and right paint/flex agent/clear they can be painted to match. Many members have done it.

Q - Can the door moldings be removed?
Yes, but be aware that there are holes under the moldings. The moldings themselves are held on with double sided tape and "pins" that go inside the holes in the door to keep them straight / in place. So these holes will need to be welded up and re-painted.

Q - What body kit options are there for my sedan?
First off, you need to know that the 03/04 sedan is not the same as the 05/06 sedan. The hood, headlights, grille and front bumper are different and not interchangeable between the two unless you change everything I just listed!

The 05/06 Splash Guards will also fit the 03/04 with minor modifications.

The side skirts and rears will swap but the 05/06 does have the trunk pop in the rear bumper.

Q - Are there aftermarket upgrades for my interior?
Yes. The most common are shift *****, e-brake levers (6MT only), racing seats, gauges, and audio/video.

A few of us have installed seats from the coupe or 07' sedan in our cars. The 03-06 sedan seats do not offer much for support and this helps a lot while still keeping airbags, power and heaters. For the coupe seats, some models are direct swaps and others require minor wiring modifications. The coupe seats do sit lower so the passenger side may need spacers. The 07' sedan required rail modifications as well.

Q - Why does my rear windows make a popping/ticking noise over bumps and on accleration when they are rolled all the way up?
This is because the window regulator bolts are too long and should be replaced with the shorter ones specified in the Infiniti TSB ITB05-034. They can be replaced under warranty as well.

 

Q - Can I change my stereo?
Yes you can. You will need the JDM V35 Skyline bezel and A/C controls. This will give you a double din opening for double din stereo or a single din with a pocket kit. Go to Mynismo.com, Grubbsperformance.com or everythingg35.com for more info.

Many members install the double din TV/DVD/Navigation units like the Eclipse AVN and Pioneer AVIC series. There are many others on the market too.

They offer a 10” or 12” fiberglass enclosure for the passenger side of the trunk. If you have the full size spare you will have to remove the foam spacer next to the spare to fit the 12”.

Q - Are you able to install an OEM navigation system in a non-nav car?
While it is possible and a few members have successfully integrated systems, it is recommended that you do not attempt to do this. It is simply not practical nor cost efficient.

Not only is the cost of obtaining an OEM Nav system (whether new or used) is expensive and difficult, but you must also install a new wiring harness, or create your own navigation harness to attach to your current wiring. Installation can exceed 20+ hours due to wiring and only if the person is familiar with what they are doing.

It is recommended that you install either an aftermarket in-dash system (Pioneer AVIC-D1/Z1, Eclipse AVN 5500, etc) or utilize a portable navigation unit (Garmin, Tom-Tom, etc) as a more viable Navigation solution.

-Doggy Door
2003 was the only sedan with Doggy Door rear trunk lid. The Doggy Door is nicknamed that because it resembles one. The "INFINITI" is smaller and contained only on that part. It also contains the trunk release switch. The 03.5 and 04 do not have a trunk release on the back of the car. It was brought back on the 05-06 in the form of a button under the driver side tail light.
-03/04 Have the grid style tail lights 05/06 Have the twin circles
-Starting in 2003.5 HID headlights were offered
- All the body parts in front of the doors changed. They do not swap between 03/04 and 05/06 unless you change everything.
-The Hood now has a single line down the center and a slightly different shape
-The headlights are also slightly different on the outside and have a different bezel on the inside
-The grille is different
-The front bumper cover is different now painted all the way down with two larger openings on each side like the coupe
-The fenders are different to fit the new hood and headlights
-The side markers are the same
-The side skirts are now color matched
-The rear bumper cover is also color matched and is slightly more aggressive
-As mentioned above there is now a trunk release button under the driver side tail light.

I'm don't want to turn this thread into a debate on how accurate these HP/TQ numbers really are. This is what Nissan USA said they are so that's what I'm writing.
-In 2005 the brakes were upgraded to larger rotors and different pads. Many people had issues with the 03/04's undersized brakes and aggressive pads wearing out very quickly; so quickly that after several lawsuits Infiniti began offering a 3yr/36k mile brake warranty where the dealer took care of all brake maintenance.
-The struts changed in 2005, (I believe the springs stayed the same?)
-Starting in 2004 a VLSD rear differential was provided with the 6MT


Interior
2003- 2004 Has one style, 2005-2006 has another.
Main differences are:
- Gauge style changed and speedo/tach switched places
- Center HVAC display and clock changed
- 03/04 has titanium look center console, 05/06 has aluminum
- 03/04 has a button to change radio volume and temperature, 05/06 has a turn ****
- It has been said that the CD changer in the 05/06 changes faster (not sure, I use an iPod)
- Starting with 05/06 the I-key was offered
- Starting with 05/06 Bluetooth was offered
