Group Effort to push for 3rd brake-light recall. READ IF YOURS IS OUT!

There is an existing thread on this subject here but because the subject is a bit vague, I thought it best to create a new thread that will hopefully get more attention.

It seems that a common problem with the spoilerless G35 Sedan is that the third brake light (the one in the back glass) either does not work, or works intermittently.

Apparently, Infiniti is either unaware of this problem, or (more likely) trying to brush it under the rug.

Several members have reported that informing Infiniti of the issue has done little good, so a better option would be to report the problem to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and report the problem to them.
If enough people report the same problem, NHTSA will launch an inquiry which will hopefully result in greater attention from Nissan/Infiniti in this matter, and possibly a recall.
Clearly, NHTSA will be very interested in this information because of the obvious safety implications of a non working brake light.

NHTSA can be reached by phone at 888-327-4236

Also a complaint form can be filled out here: https://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/ivoq/

The form is easy to fill out and only takes about 5 mins.

I've wondered about that. If you know any coupe drivers with the same problem, send them over!

Is there a temp fix for this? I noticed mine goes out intermittently. It fixes when the car is shut off for a bit.

unless it's dark out how do you know when its out (especially intermittent)?... iirc you can see the illumination in rear-view mirror at night, but I dont think mine can be seen in daylight (I'm referring to in mirror of course).

That's how I see...but I can also see cuz when I park at work I back up to a window. Also, when in traffic, if a big truck or bus with chrome grill ismbehind youl you can see as well.

Mine is humidity related. Humidity goes up, light doesn't work. It dries out and tinworks. Now that winter is here, it works all the time. But during the humid summer, it never worked unless a cool front came through

I wonder if mine works? Now I guess I have a reason to drive it more (but I'll probably forget to look)

I work night shifts (driver at Jimmy Johns!) and Notice it a lot. It has no real precursor, it just randomly will be on or off. Also, during the day I can see a slight hint of red if its working or not or when im in my garage I can see it too. I Noticed this problem on some LED's KIA suv's use. I wonder if they have the same part failure.
