Group Effort to push for 3rd brake-light recall. READ IF YOURS IS OUT!
#241
Hate to burst your guy's bubble but this is an extremely easy repair.
Step 1. Remove top trunk lining (under rear 3rd light)
Step 2. Remove insulation from hole in the center.
Step 3. There will be one easy to see philips screw head, remove it
Step 4. Look to the opposite side (passenger side) and remove that one as well. (Very tight fit) DO NOT LET THIS SCREW FALL INSIDE THE HOLE. YOU WILL HAVE TO REMOVE THE REAR SEATS TO GET IT BACK!!
Step 5. Push up on the rear panel through the hole and push the rear light towards the front of the car and wiggle it out. (This is the hardest part) but will save you hours a work vs. Removing the rear seats.
Step 6. Unplug the light before you remove it
This is the fun part
You will need a replacement diode from eBay or another electronic. Use Google to learn what they are.
I used one from a burnt out lipo battery charger I had from my remotecontrolled plane
Step 7. Diagnose the issue with the led strip. 99% of the time it will be the diode failed or a cold solder. Some multimeters have functions to test diodes.
Step 8. Un solder and remove the diode and replace it in the space way it was removed.
Step 9. Hook to a 12 volt power source and test it out! Just remember polarity matters on Leds
If you rather me do it PM me and I'll give you a price!
