Update on Navigation CDROM
I just wanted to know if there is a new version of the CD-ROM for the Navigation System. A few months ago they just finished a freeway and it doesn't come up on my Navi. Thanks!

The 04 Maxima and Murano come siwht v6.1, which is "last" years. They've since updated... you can get v6.2 which essentially DOUBLES the number of navigable roads. Instead of doing that, I just switched my G's DVDrom with my mom's FX's DVDrom Shhhhh....!

Re: Update on Navigation CDROM
I just got a flyer in the mail from Zenrin. There is a new update out now. It's $185 plus shipping, order by Oct 31 to get free shipping, CA residents add 8.25% tax, www.zenrin.com, 800-777-0325 M-F 6a-5p PST. There are coverage maps on their website for v6.1 (current) and v6.2 (new) to compare.
Note, you don't have to keep buying new discs.. there is no subscription necessary for the Nav to continue to work. However, maps do go out of date eventually. I don't think it's necessary to update every year, just when they update an area that's useful for you.

Re: Update on Navigation CDROM
Does anyone know if our NAV reads recordable DVDs (i.e. backup copy)?

Re: Update on Navigation CDROM
Have you made a backup? I tried to create a backup with DRU-500A DVD burner, but it won't let me. Perhaps it will only read R+/RW+ or R/RW? No idea man... let me know if you figure out how to copy it-- my software wouldn't even do a standard "copy DVD" maneuver.

Re: Update on Navigation CDROM
I actually don't have a DVD burner. But I'm curious, can you at least see the files on your PC?
Perhaps the DVD is an entirely different, proprietary format, just like there is a computer DVD format, movie DVD, VCD, music CD, computer CD, etc.

Re: Update on Navigation CDROM
It would be expensive to make a proprietary DVD format. It's probably a standard data DVD, so they can take advantage of mass-market DVD drives for the system. However, the data on the DVD could easily be in a proprietary format and look like a bunch of garbage files to your computer.
