Left speaker goes in and out in all modes

Hey guys,

I read a post from earlier where someone said that their left speaker goes out in CD mode.

My left speaker actually goes in and out no matter what mode (CD, radio tape) im in. If I hit the left side of the headunit really hard then the speakers work for a while but then go out again. Also, if I go over a bump or take a sharp turn the speakers go in and out too.

So here are my questions:

1) Do you think this is a HU problem or an amplifier problem. I am out of bumper to bumper warranty so I need to solve this problem on my own.

2) Is there anyway to check to see if the amp is broken or if the HU is broken?

3) I installed an ipod adapter (pa11-nis) 1 week ago. Could that have caused the problem? I dont think it would but maybe I messed something up when moving the Headunit up and down?

I would really appreciate any help...Im really confused right now.

Thanks a lot

I had the exact same problem before and took the car to the dealer numerous times to fix the issue. They replaced the speakers a few time, and evenutally replaced the headunit which fixed the issue. Good luck!

Have you tried rechecking your work and look for a loose connection?

It's the HU, I believe there is a TSB about it. I have the exact same problem. Of course everytime I bring it into the dealers they could not "replicate" the problem. I told the dealer that my left speaker keeps going out and they asked me if it happens when I make sharp turns or go over bumps and I said yes. If they asked me that, obviously they know about the problem so why couldn't they replace the HU or at least the speaker instead of trying to "replicate" the problem? These dealers are wasting my time, this will be the 5th time I'm bringing it back to them to fix it, sorry not fix but to look at it

So just to make sure...your left speaker goes out in all the modes too?

is there anyway to check if the amp is in working order?

also, I cannot find the TSB, can you show me where it is?

Thanks again.

I'm trying to find the TSB right now and I can't find it either, maybe I was wrong? But I could have sworn there was one. But to answer your question, it goes out when I play CDs, when I'm listening to AM/FM or SAT it's not as noticeable but is still lower compared to the right side.

alright, after reading a few other threads it seems like its definatly my head unit.

I think I will just do a double din install instead of going back to the original head unit.

I had the same issue... I had to punch the side of my console for the speaker to kick in. The dealer replaced the headunit.
