I had a similar issue on my '05 coupe. Not the same in that it was confined to a time frame of day, but randomness. Sometimes it would work, sometimes not. Go up then go down, go up then go part way down. The issue was the track tab on the left side was loose and caused the erratic behavior. It didnt sense that it was full up, and went back down, (and vice versus) I am guessing as a programmed safety measure like the windows do when they sense resistance prior to full extension. I dont know the weather there but it seems to be confined to the evening which I am assuming is moderately warm and thermal expansion of interior components is causing an issue. A stretch, but that is how it seems. The tracks are easily seen if you remove the side panels from the Bose/Nav unit. It's a white tab on a track with a single philips head screw. Check those for tightness. Mine was loose, I tightened it then added some super glue on the screw head and plastic piece to freeze the screw from loosening. It's been a year and no issues. I was liberal with the glue, didnt want it to be permanently bonded, just enough to hold the screw but still can be easily forced with a screw driver.

Has anyone else found a fix besides Hurt Locker's? I have had the dealership replace the nav motor before but two years later it’s doing the same thing. Now that it’s hot out, my nav screen just comes up half way then goes back down. Is there a site that shows us how to disassemble the dash to get to the busted part?

I have the same issue. I have taken it all apart and lubed all the parts and it didn't help. It used to work in the winter in the morning, then in the afternoon it wouldn't now it's not working at all.

I beleive it's the electric motor. I beleive if I replace that with a new motor it will run it up far enough to lock it into place and stay open.

If you take it apart and watch how the motor works, when it runs up the guide, the motor continues to turn a little bit more and lock the display into place. I beleive the motor brushes or the bearings are worn enough to prohibit the full extention and lock of the gearing.

I will eventually get around to replacing the motor when I have a couple hours to mess with it.

I'm still having this issue as well. The thing pops up and goes right back down. I'm going to try tightening the screws as Hurt Locker mentioned. Other than that, I'm still at a loss.

Since i have had then dealer "fix" this issue three times now it looks like I am getting a new motor harness. Apparently every time the dealer has attempted to fix the navi motor problem they fix it with a refurbished part. My service rep had notified me that Infiniti has offered to swap out my navi harness for a new unit. Apparently there is a durability problem with the referbs and she can't get them shipped for some reason. The motor problem lies in the plastic gears that, when heated/cooled drastically, bind up and cause the navi unit to jam. Forcing the unit to go back down. Ininfiti is fully aware of this problem and forcing the issue with the service department can help in some situations. Sorry for not providing any quick fixes. Another problem with plastic parts.... ughhhhh.

Nope, mine doesn't work at all now. It will come up and go back down. I have tore into it a couple times to see what I could find and even added a little extra power to the motor to see if I could get it to stay up. NOPE. It's trash. I have just given up on it. Iwould have to replace it to get it to work.
