Rattles after component install in doors

About a week ago, I installed a set of Infinity Kappa components in the front doors of my Coupe. I also dynamatted the doors. Since then, I have noticed some rattles coming from the speaker grills in the doors. I have taken the doors apart a few times and have added weather stripping where needed, but I just can't seem to completely kill the rattles. It only occurs in songs with a lot of bass. I know that it is the silver speaker grill because if I put my hand on it, the rattle stops. Has anybody had issues with this before? If so, how did you rectify it? By the way, I used the Zen Enclosures spacers to mount the speakers.

check the mounts, then see if you are touching the cover. Is there a crossover for the components? I would check to see if those are rattling as well.

I used those spacers also. Nothing rattles here.

I finally have been able to locate the source of the rattle. Because of the spacers, my woofers now touch the inside of the speaker grill in the door. When a heavy bass note hits, they rattle the grill. I think this may be due to the fact that I have some Dynamat under the spacers. Has anyone else dealt with this?

I was told that if you use 1 inch spacers over the dynamatt it will put the speaker mighty close to the door panel. I'm doing the exact same install tonight on my G using the Kappas, dynamat and the 1" zenclosures spacers. I think I'll dynamatt around the spacer just in case.

That's my exact setup. I am thinking about going in this weekend and removing the dynamat under the spacers. It's not just a close fit, it's actually touching the speaker grill in the door. I plan to remove the spacers, pull up the dynamat under them, and replace them. Hopefully, this will fix my problem. It doesn't happen often, but when it does, it rattles the hell out of the door.

Well it took some extra time but I ran the dynamatt around the spacer and don't hear any rattling at all. The doors shut much nicer as well. Bonus!

I e-mailed Mike from Zenclosures about my problem and he sent me a set of 3/4" spacers for free. He is by far the best seller I have ever dealt with on Ebay. I had some time last night to install one of the spacers and it fixed the problem. The speakers no longer touch the inside of the door panel and, therefore, no longer rattle the speaker grill. Thanks again to Mike for sending the new spacers.

Angry rattles

Hi JSH198,

I am a brand new 06 MT owner. I have less than 400 miles on my G35 and have new rattles showing up from the speaker grills to the driver window. This pisses me off. I would not expect this from an Infinity product. I never read anything about rattles in the rags but I do read it on this website. I am a new user to the website. In fact, I registered yesterday. Obviously, I am not the only driver who hates rattles. I will call the dealer Monday and let you know what they say. When you spend this much money for a car, I don't want to take the interior apart and RTV grills ect.

My other complaint is the road noise when driven on concrete. It is way too noisy. On blacktop it is no big deal but the concrete is unreasonable for car of this price point. Does anyone have a partial solution for this? Can the car be undercoated?

First, congratulations and welcome to the forum. Yes, OEM rattles can be annoying, but an occurence that is more common than not.

-Check existing TSBs on your model year to see if a rattle issue and fix has been identified. If so, you can take your G to an Infiniti dealership for remediation.

-As for road noise, you are out of luck. These are sport coupes, not luxo barges, so the road insulation will be thinner and tire noise will be inevitable. High performance tires will typically be louder due to different tire compounds, tread patterns, low profile, and larger sizes. Your fix here is to dynamat the wheel wells and get less noisy tires. You can also rip up your carpet and lay down thicker insulation and padding to further reduce road noise in the cabin.

Good Luck!
