Here are some updated picts (better quality) after I completed my hardwire install recently. I added an in-line fuse to protect my investment, as recommended by RXM here on the forum (in-line fuse was 2A and purchased from Radio Shack for under $2.00).

I was able to hardwire it in the cubby without having to remove any part of the center console whatsoever. I drilled a 1/4" hole in the rear left corner of the cubby & then stuck a thin metal coat hanger down the hole & was luckily able to find my way out the bottom near the floor vent above the gas pedal!! I fished the wire thru and I was good to go!!

Also, FYI to others out there who are interested in this Nuvi model...I was just at BJ's over the weekend and they are now carrying the Nuvi 660 model for $749.99 (pretty much the cheapest price that can be found online).

I finished my cubby mounting for my Nuvi 660 over the weekend. I hard-wired a cigarette lighter adapter plug socket into the cubby to power the suction cup mount similar to the way you did. Rather than tap the fuse, I tapped into the output (red wire) of fuse #7 (15 amp) that powers the left side cigarette lighter. The factory 12 volt cigarette lighter plug for the suction cup mount has a fuse built into it, so I didn't add an additional inline fuse.

 

Nice work. I like how your dash matches your Nuvi . Can you hide your wire? It's visible in your pict......

 

It would be difficult to hide the wire because of the way (direction) it enters the mount. I'll have to take another look at it and see if there's a way to modify it to hide the little loop of wire that shows so its totally clean.

How did you wire yours?

 

It's in thread #31 above (see the last photo). My disc appears to be mounted higher than yours, so I have the ability to route it away.

 

Here's a few pics of my Nuvi 660 install - inspired by guys on this forum.

I used a tight fitting piece of wood in the cubby to mount the disc. Hard wired a lighter adapter in the cubby which tapped the passenger side outlet. Installed a PAC-NIS and have the Nuvi "headphone" output going to the head unit (Sounds great, FM transmitter sucks). Got a 2GB SD card for MP3s for 20 bucks. Installed optional mic in the card holder for handsfree calls. The mic plugs into the mini stereo plug on the mount next to the power connection. Listening to MP3s the Nuvi mutes for calls or directions. Pretty slick.

 

I see now. All I had to do was reposition the the mount so it moves the Nuvi back (more inside the cubby). I had mine postioned too far forward.
