would it be cheaper to buy and install say tweeter or best buy a place like that, or a small audio shop?

Personally, the Z1 is not a SQ focused HU. It's geared more for people wanting everything in one box. Nav, radio, cool graphics, tuner tools, etc... I've talked to the installers at the shop I use and they are not down with the Pioneer D, N, Z units for people looking for SQ. The Kenwood DDX-8017 is a better SQ choice IMO, but you lose the Nav function unless you get a separate nav component. The other alternative I discussed with installers is to get the Alpine W200 double-din mated with their H701 processor to boost preout voltage and increase EQ control. The big plus is that the H701 can be managed using the onscreen interface on the W200, but again, you lose the nav function unless you get a separate component. So if SQ is more important to you than Nav, I'd look away from the D, N, and Z series all-in-one units.

Good Luck!

Couldn't agree with you more! The Z1 definately is not an SQ unit. I would definately go with Alpine for a pure SQ system.

I concur. Even though I have the Z1 and love it, it is difinitely not set up for SQ. Kenwood Excelon units are much better for SQ.
