hey guys and gals. I didn't want to start a new thread just for this question, so I'm reposting in this thread as per it is for this thread as well.
Does anyone know where I can get "leather tape"? If it even exists? The only kind I can think of is for tennis racket grip tape. I am integrating my OEM shift **** with my mute switch, so I don't even have to move my hand anywhere to hit it. It was too secluded where I previously had it. My temporary solution was to wrap it with black electrical tape and it is 90% perfect. I just want to rewrap it with leather if possible. You cannot even notice the tape at all unless you look closely. I will post pictures later on to show the progress.
TIA for any leads

Hey everyone. I was asked to do a writeup on my mute switch, so I will provide one.
What you need:
Mute cord: http://cgi.ebay.com/Custom-Valentine-One-1-V1-Radar-Remote-MUTE-Switch_W0QQitemZ230104401934QQcategoryZ14935QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item230104401934RJ-11 splitter: http://www.stayonline.com/detail.aspx?ID=2376
V1 hardwire kit. (get it from V1)
RJ-11 3" extension cord
(I am still working on finding out where the guy got the mute switch because his cost is about $3 tops for the entire setup) He sells them for $12.95 shipped.
He includes instructions as per what you need for the mute switch to work (I already listed it above).
Directions as per Concealed display being used as well:
1. Plug your main unit into the 'main unit' receptor.
2. Plug your 3" extension cord into the 'accessory' receptor.
3. Plug other end of 3" entension cord into the RJ-11 splitter that has one reception side.
4. Plug Concealed display into either of the RJ-11 splitter's two receptors.
5. Plug the mute switch cord into your leftover receptor.
Run your cords up through the steering under-panel. The mute lead can be placed to your liking. (Sorry I forgot to post pictures of my current/temporary mounting place on my shifter.)
Hope this helps. PM me or post if you need more info.

Is that mute cord the same as pressing the mute button on the remote display unit? Unlike some other radar detectors, the V1 does not completely mute a strong signal since it's regarded as a threat.

Like Espresso said, you have two mute settings on the main unit. The large **** is the first alert and the back slider is the mute setting volume.

As per further inquiry. Pictures of the current mute switch location. It's secured with electrical tape until I can find leather tape. I'm still working on finding a comparable location and push button that can be mounted elsewhere.

In picture #3 you can see the black panel that runs long the outside of the center finisher. That panel pops off from the front and is secured by 2 screws (maybe 1). I ran the cord behind that panel and up into the steering collector over to the kick panel.
Just ordered this to replace the electrical tape

I forgot to mention how I ran the cord to the shift ****. You unscrew the shift **** until it's off. Pull the mute cord up and out of through the middle of the boot. Start tightening the **** back on keeping the boot untwisted and when you get down to the last turn you have to "lead the whale." Put the cord to the left and let it tighten and turn back to the center. Now apply your securing tape.
