Thumbs down Aftermarket system while retaining stock HU....

Not that happy with this...i am using a scosche line output converter, Soundstream 680.4 amp, 2 sets of boston speakers (Pro series front components, SL65 rears) and while the stereo sounds great, the amount of feedback and hissing white noise is unacceptable...I noticed a lot of you keep the stock headunit and was wondering how you deal with this crap?? I am ditching the stock HU as soon as I can afford it....wow

Sorry to hear that, man! I had a PAC-Audio LOC that seemed to work pretty well, although I did have a noise issue at first too. My symptoms were a buzzing in the speakers in when the system was on but no music playing. To cure it, I had to wrap ALL of the connections on the LOC with a lot of electrical tape, and then I wrapped the RCA connections on the LOC too. That cured it for me. . .but boy was it a hassle to diagnose. When the amp and LOC were uncovered, there was no noise, but I guess when I put that plastic trim piece on to cover it, the cables fell together in such a way that it would pick up some feedback.

Good luck!

-Andrew

Thanks Andrew, it sounds like a huge pain to fix so I probably will just ante-up for a dvd headunit soon...should fix it!

at the end of hte day, even a normal HU IMO sounds a lot better than anything out of the stock headunit.

if you have bose, then you have this issue: if you tap it after the bose amp, the signal is strong but the eqing the bose amp does makes it sound wimpy and horrible.

if you tap before bose amp, signal is relatively un eqed, but its such a low signal that you end up with noise, feedback and what not...

so as you suggested, i would look to do a headunit install.

with a line driver with built in LOC, you cna get better results from the stock headunit...but still in my strongest opion, replacement of the HU does wonders for hte overall SQ

I hear that! My only concern is when I get an Alpine IVA-W200 which I plan on doing, my factory sirius (that i am not paying for, for some reason lol) won't work anymore and I'll miss the steering wheel controls!!

You can keep the steering wheel controls with a PAC SWI-ALP or SWI-X.

I used my HU for about a month and didn't have any problems like that. Make sure your grounds are good. Sometimes grounding those line level converters will make more noise.
