PS2- Glove Compartment - Electric
For those of you that have the mod to make your OEM NAV have a video input that use the PS2 Slim, How do you power the PS2? Please try to be as detailed as possible as I plan on doing this, this weekend. Thanks Let me know what product I need and which wires to get the power from.

Hardwire the power inverter with a fuse and relay to the cig lighter. I've done this mod for a few friends. you have to cut the end of the power inverter where the cig plug is test it to see which is negative and positive. Connect a relay with a fuse to the positive and splice into your cig lighter or 12 volt power source. Most inverters have a power on/off switch.

Run a relay inline with the power connected to your ignition source so it shuts off when you turn the car off

I understand what you're saying because the cig lighter is only rated at 15amps.
Hitechg said to wire a relay with a fuse to and use the cig lighter for power. That's the part I didn't understand.

i got a cigarette lighter power supply for my ps2 at eb games and took it apart and then connected the wires to the to the wires behind the cigarette lighter.
although i think i am goin to move them to a constant source that way when i turn the car off and on i dont loose what im doin on the ps2.

Better safe than sorry. I know the inverter has a switch but I've had a couple of the switches burn out causing a surge so I use an extra relay as a just in case.

Find ignition power source and get it from there.
Just get the contant power from the battery (with a fuse)and the switched power for the relay from the lighter. It won't draw any power from the lighter and will use solid battery power for it.
If you get power from the battery you might as well just put a switch on that instead of a relay. It's less wiring and with that setup you have the option to leave your invertor/ps2 on while the car is shut off. Like Dan was saying you won't lose what you're doing.
I've had mine wired like that since '03 and I've used that little feature more than I ever thought I would need to. You can pause movies, shut the car off, go into a store (gas, 7 eleven, restaurant, etc), and come out and you don't have to find your place or wait for everything to load all over again.
