Blown Sub!

I have a JL W6 in my car and it sounded weirded so I checked my trunk and there was a tear in the sub. Has anybody else experienced this problem and what could be the reason it tore.

Did it tear all the way around or just in a small spot, if its a small spot, likely something in your trunk ripped the surround rather than the sub actually blowing it. The rip was probably significantly smaller, but the sub movement probably kept enlarging it until you noticed. Surrounds, especially on high end subs rarely fail nowadays, and when they do it usually the result of delamination rather than actual tearing

is it protected? did anyhting ahppen when it ws installed?

a common installer mistake is whent hey are screwing the sub in, they slip and jab the surround. often, this will make only a tiny indent or invisible hole in the surround, so they dont realize or say anyhting...

but then over time, as said above, it gets larger and larger...

the only way a surround will fail on something like a w6 due to normal usage, no overpowering, is the entire surround delaminating and coming off the basket of the sub, again as mentioned above

until we know more details like what kind of tear and if the sub is older and perhaps had a smaller rip before we ant effectively diagnose.

I just blown my 2nd W6 about a week ago. Yes, 2ND! in less than a yr. Probably my fault being an idiot bumping it too much.
