Stock Navi or Aftermarket

Well folks I've been on this website for about 9mo. now and finally I'm get ready to buy my G. Oh yeah, this is my 1st post! Anyway, my question is.... Should I get the stock Navi or should I just save the money and put it toward an aftermarket one. Thanks for any help you can give. I LOVE THIS WEB SITE!!!!!

Re: Stock Navi or Aftermarket

I personally like the stock nav, as I like well-integrated equiptment and I think that aftermarket units in a double-din just aren't as attractive. Now, if you wanted to have a custom-fabrication job, that'd be cool. Also, the Infiniti nav is integrated into the sound system and vehicle controls. You can get a lot more features with another aftermarket system, but I have yet to see one with the double-din that I like. I've seen two well put-together custom fab jobs, though. So far, I've not found the standard system lacking at all...

I've never seen a post where someone said "I wish I didn't get the nav." But you'll see several with people saying they wish they had gotten the nav. $0.02

I've said this before and I'll say this again: I'm kicking myself in the *** everytime I'm reminded that I didn't get the NAVI...

Re: Stock Navi or Aftermarket

I was deciding between stock and aftermarket Navs and decided to not get the stock and wait for the Pioneer AVIC-N1.

Pros of stock: as others stated, integrated into system, that's about it tho, probably cheaper overall, don't need to buy double-din kit

Pros of aftermarket (AVIC-N1): touchscreen, plays mp3's, dvd movies, g-tech like capabilities

The only downside is the AVIC-N1 in particular isn't coming out til March.

Re: Stock Navi or Aftermarket

I say definitely get the stock navi. I'm also kicking myself in the *** for not getting it. I'm busy searching on ways to make an aftermarket navi resemble the stock one. Such a pain in the ***. Welcome to the forum!

Re: Stock Navi or Aftermarket

I did a custom install of a Kenwood KVT-911 dvd/tv/tuner in the cubby hole and mated it to the Kenwood NAV unit. It is a good install, but also rather expensive. If I had it to do over, I would go for the factory nav. But as they say....hindsight is always 20/20.

Re: Stock Navi or Aftermarket

Lets put it this way, I was looking for wrecked g's with navi to rip the nav out of. I was --><-- close to getting one but someone bought it before i could. I ended up putting in my own navi/dvd/mp3 for around 3000(double-din price included and self installation). You gotta ask yourself what you want. If all you want is navi i say go with the stock. If you want dvd and mp3 and other goodies go with aftermarket. Also consider installation costs of the aftermarket system when you are making your decision.

Re: Stock Navi or Aftermarket

Just rip out the wiring from the wrecked g. The wiring that non nav g's are missing are connected via harnesses to wiring we do have. Not sure if that makes sense but it's the same priciple as adding sat radio to non sat ready g's

Re: Stock Navi or Aftermarket

has anyone actually tried to install a stock navi on a g that did not come with it from the factory? I have seen one for sale but it does not come with the harness. i would hate to get it then have to pay $$$$'s to get missing parts.
