installing audio system

few quick questions guys....

when installing your audio systems, have you guys had any issues with getting through the firewall when running your wires from the battery? what's the best way to go about doing this?

and, do you guys have any other tips for installing all the wires inside the panelling or anything like that. I have a bunch of stuff i am installing this weekend and any tips to save time would really help

thanks alot

I was a car audio installer for a few years while in school at a shop that did a lot of high end stuff. Not like best buy. But I also worked on a lot of crap jobs. I can say that aside of the head unit the G (sedan) is one of the easiest cars I have ever worked on. I didn't want to run my 0ga through the engine harness grommet so I made a new hole down near the ECU. The door speakers may require spacers depending on model but all in all it was a very easy install.

Remove the plastic pieces surrounding the battery and you'll find a rubber grommet with a bunch of wires going into it to the ECU. You can run the power wire through there and it's conveniently next to the battery. Then run it down the side of the car (inside) and into the trunk.

So does this mean you can just use this existing hole? I was going to run an 8g wire...any downside to using that existing hole?

Thanks,
B

I don't know what existing hole you are referring to.

How many watts is your amp? 4 gauge is likely more appropriate.

When you said there were a bunch of wires running through the grommet, I figured there was already a hole there...If not I guess I have to make a new one?

Also, the reason I only need 8 guage is because it will power my PS2...

OK, I understand.

There are wires going through there, but it's easier to make a new hole and silicone around it to seal out water.
