Audio Decisions...Need opinion!

Just got my G Coupe about 4 weeks ago (will have pics soon....). Since the school year is ending I'm about to finally start working again and one of the first things i want to buy for my G is a sub. I decided I am definiitly going wit the 4080 enclosure since the trunk is already tiny as it is. I have my old AMP which is a Rockford P6002, its 600/2. but blew the subs that i had in my old car in a bandpass. What would you guys recommend with this car in that enclosure with hopefully this amp since I don't want to have to sell it and buy another one.
Thanks guys

you are using just a box prefabricated, not built to the air space required for the sub you are gonne use?

I was under the impression that the box is really very important to the way the subs hit..

My friend owns a stereo shop and he measured my trunk for my system today, and I know he builds the box to the air space required for the speakers (RE's), and to the air space of my trunk.

the 4080 speakers are prefabricated to try and use as much airspace possible I believe. They were custom made for the G's trunk.

I am planning on getting one as well. Let me know what sub you go with.

my friend works at an audio shop that installed my sub for me.. he measured the space on the 4080 box to make sure i have enough space for my jl 10w6v2. he said i'm over .5 but that doesn't make a difference

You can put a 10w6v2 in the 4080 box and it will sound good. But the 4080 doesn't have enough internal space to really capitalize on the speaker. A 4080 box is .8cu ft. The JL 10w6v2 requires 1.18 cu ft plus another .068 cu ft for the speaker displacment so thats a total of 1.248 cu ft for a sealed enclouser. So if you have a .8 cu ft box it's about 35% to small for the 10w6v2. I have a 4080 and plan on using the 10w6v2 as well.

Your information is incorrect regarding air space for that sub.

For a sealed application, JL recommends .625ft^3 net. The 10W6v2 works very well in small sealed enclosures.

IDQ (from Image Dynamics) requires very little airspace and sounds great. One of the best SQ subs for its price range, hands down!

I have made a final decision to keep my old Fosgate P6002 amp. Bridged it's 600watts RMS at 4ohms. I was thinking of getting a 10W3V3 4ohm. I just feel that I will be pushing the sub limits too much according to the Recommended Power Chart on the JL website. I don't feel like dishing out an extra 100 for the W6 since I am a poooor college student and am DYING without bass. Any suggestions on this, maybe a different sub for the 4080 or something. Let me know, thanks guys!!!

My 4080 with a 10w6 rocked hard with 250 watts from my old JL 500/5. I added a passenger side 4080 box and another 10w6 powered by a 1000 watt Alpine PDX-1.1000 and it sounds more than twice as good Your 600 watt RF will power the 10w6 just fine. It's worth the extra money over the 10w3.
