What is the best aftermarket navigation?

tomtom?..garmin?..Magellan?.

which aftermarket would you recomend?..i want to go with tomtom because of those serviecs such as traffic and weather..but i heard its not that great..but i want peoples opinions........

and i dont plan on spending any more then around 300 dollars on one...

I have a Magellan Roadmate 800, Magellan Roadmate 360 and a Garmin i5 Street Pilot....don't ask why I have 3 portable GPS.....I just like to buy things especially when they are on sale.

The i5 is my smallest GPS, size of a baseball, screen is a bit small, it has voice directed navigation, lots of points of interests...the price has gone down a bit since it's disc...though still avail in stores.
Works well enough, tracks my location in a minute. Very easy to use.

The 800 is sometimes takes a few mins to track my location, works great, lotsa POI, This unit is also disc...but still avail in the stores/ internet...very user friendly....the 360 is similar to the 800 but way easier to use and less functions....only real diffrence is the 800's internal battery, the 360 does not have an internal battery.....I like all of my GPS's....but i notice they are only useful if you go to places unfamilar to you.....I donno much about the Tom Toms...i'm sure theyre pretty good too

You can't go wrong with Garmin IMO.

quick question though...

does this weather service cost anything?..how does it work?..does it get feed directly from satelites or do you have to download it from your computer and put it on there?..

Greek N, I recommend the garmin nuvi 350..it is a great gps, portable but still has a nice sized screen. Very user friendly and calls out the actual street and or exit ramps...I love it. Spend the extra money (its $370 online at walmart..just do a "ship to store" and avoid shipping costs too). You can also navigate using this by foot if you are on vacation and walking to nearby restaurants away from the river-walk on street-level...which people do in San Antonio river-walk area for ex. Has a great mounting bracket for the w. shield; comes with case, and built in rech. battery. This thing was around $700 bucks with tax not too long ago I love it.

i looked over your thread and the last post i see is about people stealing the gps'..

does the "Garmin Lock™" work...under specs the 310 says it has this..what exactly is it?

Garmin is by far the superior manufacturer of these GPS units, and they have TONS of different options available for all budgets. Whats your budget? I would recommend any of the nuvi series of units, there are one sfrom $200-$900. PM me if you have any specifics. Head over to www.GPSCity.com and check out some of our units.
