It's ok to put the amp on the back of the back seat IF they use at least a 1" washer on the other side to keep it from pulling out. I stole some Anne Taylor wooden hangers from my sis that are about 1/2" thick. I cut them into a 2x2" piece, pre-drilled them with holes and put them on the inside of the seat so that the screws would actually have something to drill into. The seatback is low density particle board that's less than a 1/4" thick. It's not strong enough to keep a heavy amp on it for long. Good luck.

 

Al I know its been awhile but I have a new problem. Yesterday the sub stopped pumping. The installer checked it out and said I must have blew the voice coil because all the connections were secure. When he pressed on the sub with his finger it pumped bass. WHen he let go of the sub it stopped working. I threw out all the docs (receipt, warranty) that came with the sub. Pls advise.

By the way the sub was the Polk MOMO 10 Inch sealed enclosure.

NOTE: Anyone who reads this post and has a set of rear panel stock Bose speakers from the premium stereo pkg for the 03 or 04 coupe and would like to get rid of them Pls contact me. The speakers should be complete with the mounting rings.

IIRC, you got that at crutchfield? They should have a record of your purchase. Subs are usually covered by warranty for a year. I would try to get it repaired if not replaced.

 

Once again Al, you have come thru. I called crutchfield and they will replace the sub for me with a model of similar specs being that that sealed enclosure is no longer available. I had purchased the Polk/MOMO MM10 10' sealed enclosure for 149.99.

They told me to unscrew the sub from the enclosure and to shipl the sub back using the returns label sent with the invoice (so its free). They will send me the Polk/MOMO MM104 speaker that should fit into the same case. The specs are pretty much identical on this speaker. However this speaker is being sold by them for 219.99.

In any case they are exchanging my faulty sub for this new replacement at no cost to me. I am happy. Who wouldn't be?

Glad I could help, Black. Crutchfield charges more for their products but you got a great deal originally and they are a very reputable company.

Now just keep the volume under 30 and you'll be ok. :-)

Once agin..I need some advice. While driving to work this morning I heard a small *pop* from the right side.

I used the dash units controls to isolate the front right speaker...no sound.

Then came another *pop* fromt he left side. No sound from there anymore either.

Those were my MB Quarts.

I din't purchase those from a retailer that would replace them. What do you think happened? I do play my music loud.

DO you suggest I replace them with the same speakers or would you happen to have a better suggestion in mind as to the speakers I should try next.

My suggestion

Audison srx-5 =$600.00 (IMO the best factory integrating amp on the market - i have never heard anything cleaner sounding blows away any JL, Fosgate< etc etc...

Focal 6.5 components = $200.00
front door only - the rear speakers in any system are only used for (fill) -

10" mb quart (reference) sub $225.00
custom box - only requiere .6 qft of air space...

I am aware that there are about a million options out there - and you can debate and debate and spend thousand of dollars - but unless you are planning on entering (stereo competitions) than I don't feel that there is a need to spend that kind of money -

dollar for dollar, I have compared my sytem to several (at least 20) different systems - especially people who have spent at least double that amount and I couldn't be happier- especially when someone tells me that they spent $2500.00 - $4000.00 and my $1500.00 dollar system makes theirs sound like an Am radio...

 

so your system is DVD and makes their system look like VHS? ROFL... i saw a laser-eye surgery place that used that as their catch for their commercial ad

Hey, I'm kind of stereo stupid. I think I'm going to take a gamble and follow your advice. What exactly do I tell the stereo shop I want to do? Do they replace the bose amp? This is how I take your setup. Purcahse new amp (Audison) to replace bose, run all speakers off of it including the sub. Replace front door with focal 6.5 (which ones) and add a 10" mb quart reference sub. Who makes the box? That's it. What should I expect to pay for install. Cables, etc.? Thanks for your help!!!!!!!

Phoenix Gold amp (1 for speakers, 1 class D mono for sub)
Phoenix Gold LPL (Control sub bass from inside the car)
Mb Quart for door speaker (may consider spending a little more and get the QSD line since they are almost $900 cheaper on eBay)
Kicker Solo-baric sub

All these are high quality and what I consider the best combo and will be about half the price if you get them on eBay.. Everybody says JL this JL that. Sorry, but one company does not have the best of everything! You can have the best and not pay tons. Normally this setup would be in the thousands, but not anymore with eBay around. Good Luck!!
