04 Coupe Stock Upgrade with $1200?

I just want to take out the speakers that are in the car and replace with better "drop-in" speakers. What are the speaker sizes in the coupe?

My budget is about 1200 for this project. Any auggestions? I am open to add an amp or whatever but I dont know much about electronics so please be easy and enlighten me.

Re: 04 Coupe Stock Upgrade with $1200?

some suggestions...

System 1 (clean sound):
Amp: JL Audio e6450 (45w rms x 6 @ 4 ohms) ~ $325
Front Speakers: Focal Access 165a 6.5"Components ~$180
Rear Panel Speakers: Focal Access 165ca 6.5" Co-ax's ~$130
Rear Deck Speakers: Focal Access 690ca 6"x9" Co-ax's ~$150
Total ~ $800 w/o labor and parts for installation (wires, rca's, fuses, etc.)

System 2 (clean sound w/ a little more bass in the rear):
Amp: Precision Power PCX 5800 (50w rms x 4 @ 4 ohms + 200w rms x 1 @ 4 ohms) ~ $450
Same Speakers as #1
Total ~ $900 w/o labor and parts for installation(wires, rca's, fuses, etc.)

System 3 (loud, clean, and some nice loud bass):
Amp: Phoenix Gold Octane R 9.0:5 (125w rms x 4 @ 4ohms + 400w rms x 1 @ 2ohms) ~ $360
Front Speakers: MB Quart RCE 216 6.5" Comps. ~ $180
Rear Panel Speakers: MB Quart RKC116 6.5" Co-ax's ~$125
Rear Deck Speakers: MB Quart RCE269 6"x9" Comps ~$230
Total ~ $900 w/o labor and parts for installation(wires, rca's, fuses, etc.)

or you can just mix and match...you get the idea, good luck

other speaker suggestions: cdt audio, rainbow, diamond audio, image dynamics...but not all come in sizes that'll fit into all the locations in our cars if you wanted to keep with one manufacturer so you might have to mix it up.

note: these are prices posted on www.woofersetc.com

Re: 04 Coupe Stock Upgrade with $1200?

give us some more info.
1. I assume from your sig that you have the bose
2. Is the bass from the 6x9's sufficient or not?
3. what type of music do you listen to?
4. do you like 'bright/harsher' or 'smoother' tweeter output?
Help us, help you :-)

Well I listen to absolutely EVERYTHING but mostly HipHop and R&B. I want the sound to be cleaner, louder and deeper.

Re: 04 Coupe Stock Upgrade with $1200?

My suggestions:
JL 500/5 amp ~$600
Infinity Kappa Perfect 6.5" components up front ~$220
Infinty Kappa 6.5 coaxials for the rear side panels ~$100
Infinity Kappa Perfect 10.1 subwoofer ~$120
Enclosure ~$60
Accessories and install ~$200-300.

All prices were shipped off of ebay. I know I went a little over your budget but I think you'll find that it was worth the extra $.

Re: 04 Coupe Stock Upgrade with $1200?

1200 is my budget on parts alone. I will be using a part of my tax return this year for this. I already have money set aside for installation and wiring, etc.

Nismo and Al thank you for your help. Al your sytem sounds hot. Nismo your system 3 idea sounds great.

This 1200 does not include subwoofer money. I do not want to sacrifice clarity and quality of mids and highs. If this setup I want can be made to perhaps accomodate a nice 10 inch sub at a later future (when I have the money) date it would be great.

Can you post again with your suggestions for a 1200 budget on parts? Do you think an EQ will help?

Thanks.

Re: 04 Coupe Stock Upgrade with $1200?

OK. Now you're talkin' :-)
-JL 450/4 (150 watts x 2 to the front channels and 75 watts x 2 to the rear channels, all RMS figures). I had mine bench tested and that sumb*tch was putting out 179 and 91 at 12 volts! ~$550 shipped off ebay.
-MB Quart QM series 6.5" components ~$325 shipped
-Infinity Kappa 6.5" coax ~$100 shipped.

You could get the MB Quart QSD series components at around $600 but I didn't notice that much of a difference between those and the QM's. Also Focal Utopias are great at around $600 but they require experimentation in speaker placement to get the best effect. You might have to build special kickpods to position them correctly, which you might be willing to do but you'll lose the stock look, it'll be extremely expensive, and thieves will lick their chops and wonder what else you have in your ride.

I have the 450/4 with the QM Quarts and the MB Quart DKD coaxials. I put in a set of Kappa coaxials in my buds coupe and they sounded better than the DKD's. I also have a 12W7 powered by the 500/1 for the low end.

Let us know if you have any more questions and good luck. It'll be expensive but it will definitely be worth it.

Ha Ha. Al thanks man. That system sounds good. but I live in NYC and really NEED to keep the stock look. I should have mentioned this before. My fault.

yep. Go with the quarts and you won't have to worry about kickpods, etc.

Re: 04 Coupe Stock Upgrade with $1200?

I think I've said it before, but I really don't like this forum much. I posted a very similar question on JANUARY 4th and never got one response! Maybe everyone here is a sedan hater. At least I got some advise through someone else's post.

Thanks! (indirectly)

sorry gdup35. I seem to post in spurts here. I have a sedan so I can't be a hater :-)

Is there anything you would like to ask?

Re: 04 Coupe Stock Upgrade with $1200?

I'm thinking of going with these speakers:

"Infinity Kappa Perfect 6.5" components up front ~$220"

Can I use these in the rear doors as well? Also what tweeters would your recommend?

Thanks again!

Re: 04 Coupe Stock Upgrade with $1200?

The perfects will come with tweeters so you won't have to buy additional ones. Theoretically, the perfects could be used in the back but you would have to mount the tweeter somewhere. I would just suggest getting a pair of infinity kappa 6.5 coaxials that have the tweeters mounted with the mid woofer. They run around $100 shipped off of ebay. I put them in a bud's coupe and they rock.

I looked back at your previous post and the existing amp that puts out 75 X 4 should be fine to power both sets. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Re: 04 Coupe Stock Upgrade with $1200?

Ok from Al and Nismos suggestions, I have mixed and matched. This is what I have decided to go with to upgrade my sound system for a clearer, louder, deeper sound. I also MUST have the appearance and grills remain stock. Trunk space is crucial so no subs for the time being.

Please let me know if these will accomplish what I am trying to achieve.

-JL 450/4 amp $550.
Front Doors: MB Quart QM series 6.5" components ~$325
Rear Panel Speakers: MB Quart RKC116 6.5" Co-ax's ~$125
Rear Deck Speakers: MB Quart RCE269 6"x9" Comps ~$230

I notice this is a 4CH amp. Is this sufficient for all these speakers. Is it possible to keep the Bose Amp running power to 4 of the eight speaker system and have this JL running power to the other 4?

I am not tight on my 1200 so a little more or less is ok. Please post any corrections if my system here sounds like it will conflict with what Im trying to achieve.

Re: 04 Coupe Stock Upgrade with $1200?

i would drop the 6x9's and leave it as an air resonance hole for your eventual base speaker stup in the trunk.. that is what i am foing with my setup.. and all they really are is lower level filler for the cabin... which if you have good louf ronts and rears like that then the rear 6x9's aren't necissary, and actually would impede on the eventuall base flow from trunk to cabin... just my 2 cents
