I don't need to see the band. I hear the audio alert (very few false alarms) and I see the bright red LED that I remoted to the center A/C display. The audio mutes after 3 seconds, but the light continues while the signal is present. Works great for me and I like the "stealth".

Good luck with that Escort you buy off of ebay because it doesn't come with a warranty.

From the Escort website:

I've got the Escort 9500i. I don't have much experience with the V1, my friend has one. I like the display on the escort and the gps helps tune the unit automatically which is nice. I just did a pretty long road trip with it and I like being able to go a bit fast without as much stress watching for cops.

I need to get some type of hidden cord and mount like others here have.

I don't understand how police radars work. Do they start beeping when a black and white approaches in any direction or if the cop has the speed radar on? I am planning on purchasing the Valentine but not sure of it's functions. Many cops around the Los Angeles have there speed radars off. Would it still detect a police car based on its radio frequency?

No, all RD work by receiving the radar signal. So it only works when they are actively seeking someone. I'm lucky here in South Texas, most cops are a lazy bunch, they can catch enough speeders even with it left on all the time.

They are not intrusive at all. Red is red, but when the sun goes down so does the brightness of the V1's LED's. They are subtle.

Well ur radar will not work if they tag u from behind. The mirror is completly blocking the back sensor.

Guess what, neither will you. That back sensor is useless. By the time it goes off you have been had. Same as Laser. He's close enough to nail you.

Remember the First Rule of Italian Driving, "What'sa behind you, don'ta matter".

Anyone remember which movie that's from?

I don't have any problems with hiding the V1 behind the review mirror. I still get great advance notice with radar sources from behind. Nothing in the RVM will significantly block rear radar.

Absolutely not true by any stretch of the imagination. I've had numerous occurrences where the rear facing radar helped.
