Safe Radio Removal?

I'm installing new Fosgate Sub and Polk speakers and a new Fosgate amp in my sedan this weekend. How do I safely remove the head unit to get at the wires behind it? I have the stock stereo not the Bose. I have no amp in the trunk. Let me know if there is already a post for that here. I couldn't find one. Thanks for the help.
